New (to me) 4200

With thanks to those on here and all the other forums, I now have a 4200 CC sitting in the drive :)

Touring Metallic Grey with black leather. Pictures to follow when I get a chance
Picked up from Uxbridge.
Made a total idiot of myself within 300 yards. Selected neutral as I coasted to a set of lights, then couldn't get first for (what seemed like) 5 minutes. Actually might well have been close to that.
Foot on the brake anyone? *DOH*
So nursed it through Friday pm traffic watching everything really nervously. Managed to avoid *too* much smelling of hot clutch.
M25 was predictably rubbish at 5pm on a Friday. OTOH I'm going *how fast*?!
Everything appears totally spot on.
Temp ran between 80 and 90ish. Those fans make some noise though when in traffic.
Had a brief light failure indicator when I stopped for fuel (!) at South Mimms. Cleared itself.
Handbrake is totally silly.
Oil pressure is good. Voltage also.
HVAC all seems to be working, and the NIT is a replacement (which is what it was waiting for)
Gear shifts seem a tad slow, but I've not really had a chance to stretch it out, or use sport mode.
Spun up the rears once puling out of South Mimms. I'm blaming diesel ;)
Issues: Well, not really
Chrome trim around the air vents.
One of the rear ones is knackered.
No hand free car kit, or iPod (not sure which route to go on that)
Some wear on the driver's bolster and wheel. (Estimate £100 to fix)
Needs a full on valet, although it's clean.
Only has one key (Meridien have quoted me less than the key for my GT!)
Service history not *quite* complete, but pretty close. All from Maranello.
There seems to be a faint transmission whine of some kind, but that may just be me nit being used to it. Is it common?
Other thant very *very* happy :D

Many congratulations Catman, Sounds like you got a good one, as the things you mention are nothing more than most 4200's suffer with. Get it into sport mode as quickly as possible, you won't regret it and your clutch will thank you. Looking forward to further details as you get to grips with it.....

Thanks all

Also got an error on the HVAC this morning, but chap here has a GS and tells me I can get it to read the codes. His suffers from A55 which apparently is the flaps sticking. That I can live with as it all seemed to be working fine.

Tracked down the bulb. OS number plate light. Those screws are way too rusted, so that's a job for my local chap :)

Hey Catman,

Congrats on the lovely new car, sure you will love it! Hopefully we can both find a solution on the Parrot front. I'll send you a message about that.

Out of interest what garage are you using?

Cheers

Bill McGrath did a free diagnostic for me and spent another 30 minutes looking over the car, all FOC. They are near Luton.

I'm sure I shall be making their acquaintence.

Right now it's going to be going to my old Alfa (and Maserati trained) indy to swap the heater matrix.

I swear the bloody footwell was dry!

It's quite funny. I drove the Alfa GT today for the first time since Saturday. At first I thought there was something wrong with it, it felt so sluggish!

Anyway, so far, so good. For bits and bobs, I'll be using Sunnyside down in Chadwell Heath. He's an Alfa expert I've been using for some years now, and was Maserati trained as well.
For more in depth stuff, Bill McGrath looks like the front runner.

How about you? Any thoughts

I've used Maranello in Egham for my servicing, I'd been to that garage countless times as an 11yr old boy so it was quite a nice experince taking my own Maserati there!

Will keep Sunnyside in mind, thanks

Catman,
Many congrat's, lovely car, you will really enjoy her when you get used to the drive, sport gear changes are quicker, but watch out for slippy stuff if you get excited...!!!
Cheers

Thanks all. The 'Drive like a moron' light (AKA ASR) has come on once, and I wasn't even trying.

The GT feels *so* sluggish now!

New matrix will be here today, should be sorted next week.

I suspect the aircon will need gassing as well, but I might leave that until I get the bill for the matrix :)
