Bought my maserati at 28

Still have it

Hey guys - how old are you now though? It gives a better picture of things!

When I was 30! (20+ yrs ago) I was a Lt in the Navy flying off aircraft carriers in the days of, wait for it.......Top Gun!!!
I drove a Lotus Europa. Took the wife to Biarritz in it and remember driving over the Massif Central when the heavens opened, the electric windows jammed open and both footwells filled with water! Oh - and the heater was stuck on full blast hot!

I used to fly with some navy guys up at Topcliffe who were about your vintage. Perhaps you knew some of them; Andy Mahon, Adrian 'Fingers' Hands, Dave Bomby to name but 3. What were you, SHar, pinger or jungley?

I had a Porsche 993 turbo and a Porsche 996 turbo at 30.

The 993 is better. Much better.

I've got much more relaxed over the years and now spend far far less on cars!

30 was the year I bought a weekend car to go with the company box which was a 16v Astra GTE. Alfasud 1.5Ti was rapidly joined by a 75 3.0 V6. Had to wait until 2003 until I could afford something more exotic and that was the SZ

I bought my (4.2l, base) GranTurismo when I was 31, as a belated 30th Birthday present to myself; so not sure if that counts LOL.
The Lotus Esprit?!? Great choice Andy. Never driven one, but they looked gorgeous (and still do ofc). What was it like to drive?!? Hope you did a better job of driving it than Richard Gere in Pretty Woman!

Cheers,
T

I loved it..It was my dream car 18 years ago and I finally got one....A 1990 turbo....It was my daily drive for 15 months and never let me down once...It handled like a dream as all Lotus do.....I picked it up on my birthday so a great day all around.

when the Bond film came out with the Lotus in white we had one for a write up and to test drive, loved it. but not good if you are 6ft 5in so only got to go in the passenger seat.
