Just bought a 1999 gt3200, met blue, cream leather, 2 owner, 50,000 miles. Been off the road for the last two years so need a litte re-commisioning, machine polish, valet ,belts & service, but it is a good clean car and hopefully will be a good one. Battery completly flat so i will get a new battery tomorrow put some freah petrol in and then give it a go, had a set of jump leads on and all electrics work fine but will wait for the new battery before i try to start it. I live in Sunderland, is there any other members in this area???

Welcome FLORADAEDD. Congratulations on your new trident and welcome to the forum. Am I right to think you haven't driven it yet? Hope it's all as it should be when you do get to 'stretch its legs'. Cheers, Emtee.

Hi edd and welcome to the forum, yes we have a couple of members up your way , one works offshore and has a 4200, looks a beauty, how i would love to be tinkering there with you if the beastie hasn't been started for two years , i would take out the spark plugs and give them a quick clean , and squrt a tiny amount of oil into each cylinder , on forst start up it will be a dry as a bone around the liners and thats where damage can occurr, other than that enjoy , lets her warl up for a good 10 mins before revving , and check all the hoses as she begns to get hot , these cars are notorious for leaking hoses when left idle for any amunt of time ,

If you havent driven a 3200 twin tubo before, on your first drive be really careful pulling out of corners /roundabouts there is a little turbo lag but when they cut in hold on tightly , its awesome , most 3200 are lost this way surprise power delivery out of bends enjoy mate

Welcome to the forum and good luck with getting the car back on the road where it belongs. As Loz says, take the plugs out and put a little oil in each cylinder then, whilst the plugs are still out I'd turn the engine over a few times by hand - I think you should be able to get to the crank damper bolts from underneath. This way you can check that the engine turns over freely without risking cranking on the starter and potentially damaging the engine.

Enjoy your first drive, if you've never driven a 3200GT then it'll be a drive you'll never forget.

Thanks for all your support, as anyone an idea if there is a obd socket on the car and if so where it is???? I have taken the plugs out and squirted with oil as advised, drained the old fuel out and put new in. It turns over with no problem and oil pressure is up after a few seconds but im not getting a spark!!!! Ther are 3 wires that have been cut and 2 plugs on the n/s bulkhead beside the ABS PUMP, any one any ideas??? Thanks again for all your help. Ed

Hi Ed, The OBD socket is under the steering wheel. Can't help you with the wires I'm afraid. Cheers, Miles.

Hi Ed,
Welcome to the forum and congrats on your purchase! I live just south of Newcastle, so not far away at all... I've got a 2000 3200 as well, so I'll try and get a pic of the wires tomorrow to help you out.

Hi Ed,sounds like an immobilser problem to me , i believe some of the early cars didnt have an obd socket , we could ideally do with our resident 3200 guru Nigelo to see this post , perhaps its worth sending him a private message, he will see it as soon as he logs on , sorry cant be of more help im more 4200 orientated , other than that a good autosparks would soon sort it out

Hi Ed,
Here's the picture as promised:

My wires don't seem to be cut, but I don't know what they're connected to I'm afraid. The pre-2001 3200s don't have an OBD socket - they do have a socket, but it's not generic. A chap from Holland called Marcel has designed his own diagnostic kit to read the codes from all 3200s (including pre-2001), and he's planning to make another batch of these to sell soon, I believe.

That should help CS......hopefully Marcel gets his code reader project off the ground for 3200 owners.

Hi thanks for the photo, i dont what i did but after checking all the injector wires, plugs and such she started. Its sounds fab, no worring noise from anywhere thank god. One of the plugs went to the engine compatment alarm switch, still dont knoe where or what the other 3 cut wires are from (red/white, blue/white, black) The only problem i have found is the top metal pipe from the gearbox to the oil cooler is leaking where it conects to the cooler. I think the pipe is rottern due to the time it was not used. I have looked in the handbook to see what oil is used but it says refer to Dealer, has anyone any info of what fluid it is, how much will the box hold and how do you fill and check it????? Its a auto box. Also Is there anyone apart from the dealers who sell filters, belts and suchlike that anyone can recomend? Would love to go th the Scottish show but we are off on holiday.
