Right, got it on the road properly over the lovely weekend and much more happy with the clutch in manual mode. Doesn't sit great in traffic, so was disappointed I chose the M4 on Sunday evening.

Didn't know anything about the slow start - would be useful, as we have shingle on our front driveway, and it didn't play nice the first day I took it out.

Think needs to read through the actual manual! Are there meant to be beeping sounds when it reverses? Even had to read the manual to work out how to turn the radio station. Must be getting old!

The guy who said about leaving it in Auto... He even dished out the same information on eBay! Will try and dig out the page.

Yes, it should beep, but only when you get close to something (assuming you have the reversing sensors)
If it beeps constantly, you have a dead sensor / system

Don't think the beeps are related to how close I am to something, so will get that checked out. Seem to be a bit random to be honest. Cheers!

If you get it in reverse and get down by the bumper, you can actually hear the sensors ticking away. Or not if you have a broken one.
They are the same as a BMW part, but the bumper needs to come off, which is a PITA

youll get used to it. My garage is at the top of a steep shingle slope. Thought I was stuck the first time I stopped at the gate. It's all down to throttle modulation. Pretty soon you both be able to control how the clutch engages. Just make sure your left foot is hovering somewhere near the brake should you need it while learning!

I don't think I have reverse sensors - can't see any on the bumper anyhow.

On reading the manual, it does say the beeps are let out when reverse gear is engaged (unless I was overly tired, and misread that bit) Don't think i've ever read a car manual before - has voice control and a SIM card slot? may look at these novelties when I feel totally comfortable with it.

I may well be wrong... but I think you'll find it beeps when the "parking gears" are selected... it's a regular beep .. rather than increasing frequency the closer you get...

Sure the CC bleeps to remind you your in reverse...its quite a muted bleep and not a frenetic parking sensor one.

I get a long tone, then constant quite loud beeps. No change, apart from a crunching noise when I get *really* close to something.

Mine almost makes sounds like its ready for take off. All seem very random and not that discreet neither...
