Thanks for the tips JP, so when you say "By that time, GSs would have hit a very affordable price point, and you might even be buying from someone on here!" i take it you may want me to purchase yours?

Haha, not exactly, as I am pretty certain you wouldn't be interested in a left-hand drive import of a US-spec GS coming from Dubai ;)

In fact, I hope to keep mine forever.

First of all welcome, Adam. There are some pics of my car in the for sale section that were taken by an 18 year old petrol head and amateur photographer here in Budapest. My detailer and I are trying to hook him up with other Maser and Ferrari owners in Budapest who would be willing to let him do a free photo shoot of their cars.

Your posts got me thinking about my car history, so I thought I'd map out my road to Maserati ownership, starting at age 20:

1991 - Mini 1100 Clubman (1980)
1992 - Datsun 120Y (1978) (not sure this was a step forward in any terms apart from reliability)
1993 - MG Montego (1985) (a pig of a thing but I did love the power upgrade after what I'd had before)
1995 - Toyota Corolla GT Coupe (1987) (loved having rear wheel drive for the first time and the engine was wonderful)
1995-2002 - no car
2002 - Skoda Octavia (1999)
2003 - BMW 328iSE (1999) (back to RWD and loving having some real power for the first time)
2005 - BMW 325iSE (2001)
2008 - Porsche Boxster S (2004) (loved the car objectively but just couldn't fall in love)
2009 - BMW M3 Cabrio (2005) (tried going back to BMW but after owning a Porsche found BMWs very ordinary)
2009 - Maserati 4200 GT (2002) (Heaven, I've arrived and for a lot smaller investment than I ever thought possible)

So, I got there at 38, which is older than JP (respect for being an owner at 26!) but about on a par with many of the other members. How old do you plan to be when you get your first Maser? :boss:

Not a big list but her we are....

Vauxhall Carlton - First Car at 18 - Bought it damaged from the south coast, had visions of turning it into a Lotus Carlton, which never materialised
Toyota MR2 - Bought this just before i started my first graduate job - Was a lovely little thing, that went like stink. I sometime think about buying a Rev3 to use as a second car
Ford Focus - Company Car
BMW 528 SE (E39) - Oxford Green 2 with Alpina Wheels. Lovely car for doing mega miles in, nothing ever went wrong, besides a small steering fluid leak, which we never fixed even though my tech replaced every single component!
BMW Alpina B3 (E46) - Great car , combination of classy looks and power
Maserati QP Sport GT - Im Home!

well i have decided i will always spend my money on a weekend car, so for a work car, no more than 10K and that applies throughout my whole working career, i would like a 4200 or a GS, i have set myself a target to get one between the age of about 25 and 35 but i will only buy one when i have a good sum of money to spare so i actually use it and it is not a garage queen.

Adam put £3k a year away and you will be in a GS by the time you are 25, easy, maybe even by 23 depending upon where the resell goes.

That is a mixed bunch you have there....993 Porsche, nearly had one of those a few years back. Just a pretty shape and much better to look at than the 996. Was it any good.
