Hi all,

I'm new here, was recommended to join this place from Pistonheads forums. I'm looking to changing my current car (Range Rover Sport) and considering a GranSport. I'm not that knowledgable on the ins and outs of the GS so hopefully I can pick up some pointers from here whilst I start my search for a car.

ps. I'm also an automotive photographer :)

Hi kman, and welcome to the best Maserati forum there is. Please ask any questions you may have as we are a pretty helpful bunch and I'm sure a GS owner will be along before long to answer them. Where abouts are you?

Thanks for the warm welcome. I will be asking - firstly is there a buyers guide thread for the GS? Or will it be the same as the 4200?

BennyD - I'm from Bedfordshire.

Morning Kman. Welcome to the only Maserati forum worth the name :)

4200 and GS are very similar, so just about everything on the 4200 checklist applies with some extra bits that those lucky enough to own one will chip in with.

Beds is conveniently located for the Ace cafe meets and so on, so come on down :)

Lots of info on the forum along a similar line Kman.......

Bottom line, buy the best you can afford, do all the usual checks, shortlist and get it indie inspected, only then get into negotiation

A *little* bit harsh, Andy. Myself and a couple of others do visit the other forums to answer their questions as well, you know ;)

Welcome. The first tip is to go and drive one to see if it's what you are after.

Welcome to the forum kman, you should find all you need to know on here..!! The GS is an excellent car and a massive step up from a RRSport..!! You need to have a look at one and have a drive to see if it suits first (they don't often go off road for example)..!! All depends on budget, colours etc as to what you will find, if you have a wish list, give it to such as Dicky at Richard Grace Cars and see if he can find one for you..!! Best of Luck..!!

Thanks for the welcome everyone, this seems like a really friendly place - and i'm saying that having experienced many forums over the years!

Hopefully I'l be popping down to the Ace Cafe meet if there are any GS owners going would be great to have a chat and look round your cars (and maybe offer you a swap lol)! After that I'l look towards arranging a test drive somewhere.

Someone asked to see my work - my latest trip was up in the Lake District over the weekend with a small friendly touring club, got some pics from there below plus one of my favs.... I have a facebook page too where more of my work is visible:

Welcome to the forum.

The GS is a fine choice, hopefully you'll decide it's for you and get one bought.

Others have come asking about GSs so have a read around. In brief, they're the last version of the 42 and are a sportier version, not available in manual. The gearbox is a bit marmite and not anywhere near as good as the more modern paddle shift. If a stop-start daily commute is it's primary role, probably not an ideal car.

Having said that, they're incredibly usable and surprisingly practical. I've had mine 3 and a half years and while it's not cheap to maintain, it's been as reliable or more so than pretty much every car I've owned.

There's not lots of choice on specs, and in reality your choice will be governed by what's for sale at the time (dependant on how patient you are) as there are rarely more than 8-10 cars for sale at any time. An MC Victory (rare!) is a GS with knobs on.

And the golden rule - always get the car inspected.

like many in here, I could bleat on about the GS for a long time. Have a read, have a drive and come back with questions if it looks like the car for you. There's some superb knowledge in here and, amazingly, it's generally free (might cost a beer at a meet).

Cheers
Woody
