Hi everyone, yesterday i became the proud owner of a 4200gt. Terrible weather at the moment but the 100 mile drive home was enough for me to find my feet and get used to it a bit. Moving from a supercharged civic type R, it was great to go back to an NA car, and one with plenty of power and torque. 47k on the clock and a great price, overjoyed with the change :)

Tim, welcome to the best Maserati forum there is. Great choice of motor, but take it easy in these conditions as they can, and will, bite if given the chance. A lot different from FWD, that's for sure!

Welcome to the forum.
Do take it steady in these slippery conditions!
Where about in the UK are you based?
Cheers.

Thanks guys, yeah it's going to take me a while getting used to rear wheel drive and with this weather its going to spend a fair bit of time on the driveway i think. Which suits me as i can look at it plenty!

Family home is staffordshire, but i work and spend a lot of time in London.

Thanks Parisien, lots of careful driving till the weather gets better for sure. Question for anyone reading, is it normal for the bite on the clutch to be very high and subtle? I had no problems driving it, but it'd be nice if the bite was a bit more pronounced and lower down.

Manuals are in the minority in choice and the numbers of 4200GT owners is small on here...am sure one will pass by or pm Nfm......

I had a manual 4200 and loved it. Enjoy!

S/C Type R....tell me more.

Will do mate :)

Where to start, heavily modified 2008 FN2, CT supercharger from the states. Everything bar the engine removed and replaced with aftermarket performance parts - producing 316bhp and 213/lb/ft torque. All done between TDI North, TDI South and Sumopower. Power to weight of a DB9 and a cracking sleeper that gave M3's and Porsche's a shock. Will miss it but onwards and upwards :)

The bite being high on a manual is a sign that the clutch is worn, there's no % reading on a manual as there is on a cambiocorsa.

Ok thanks mate, there's no slippage or anything yet so i'll keep an eye on it. If the bite becomes any higher i'll get it looked at

From my experience they don't slip like a CC would. Doesn't mean it needs replacing just means its getting worn.

Great fun! Can't you get the Atom with a supercharged Type R engine?

Welcome Tim

A select bunch us GT owners, we can laugh at those poseurs with their flappy paddles as we crawl in traffic with ease and parallel park. Few of us skilled drivers left now. :)

Seriously though, my clutch bite is normal and not that high so as Dicky says you may have some wear there - any idea when it was last changed? They do tend to last a tad longer in the manuals as I understand it. Loz drove about with a borderline (CC) clutch for a long time before it went so no need to panic.

Enjoy the ownership experience, it still feels special every time, even after 3 1/2 years.

Cheers
