My garage was broken into last night

As per title, I was robbed!

It was my brick built garage where the Lotus lives, not the impenetrable fortress that is the tent that the GTS lives in.

They nicked a couple of Radio controlled cars, one that I've had since I was 14 and another petrol one that's a couple of years old and some other bits and pieces. I don't know whether to feel lucky or insulted that they left the Lotus alone, but then they may be back for that another day!!

More importantly, they also nicked the spare Granturismo front wheel I had. Those of you that trawl ebay for Maaserati stuff, could you please keep an eye open for anyone flogging just one wheel and let me know if you find anyone - not that I want a replacement, it's to see if the culprit can be caught red handed.

A coupIe of years ago I caught a storeman that was steeling from me by finding my gear on ebay, so it's worth a look!

This is the wheel: http://www.sportsmaserati.co.uk/showthread.php/2339-For-Sale-GT-front-wheel-(pic)

Cheers in advance for any help.

Dan

Dan, very sorry to hear of your trouble, its not a nice feeling that some nere-do-well is in your property stealing your stuff.

Will keep a beady out eye out on as many auction/sales sites as I can. Give me some more details on the radio controlled stuff by pm if you wish.

I assume all Lotus/GT keys present etc?

All the best and I hope you get back to normality soon!

All keys accounted for in the house, the problem, or perhaps the good thing depending on your point of view, is that the garage is 50m from the house. So if they're in the garage they can't just wander into the house.

I certainly had a sinking feeling when I came out and saw the garage door open and huge relief when I found the Lotus still there. Plus the to$$ers left the front gate open meaning that had I let the dogs out this morning they could have run out on to the main road - I would not be happy to find a squashed dog.

I know it's a bit of a case of locking the stable door after the horse has bolted, but I've sent the mrs out to get a chain and lock for the gate to make it as difficult as possible to get any of the cars out if they come back and have a go. Plus the dogs are normally shut in the dining room, from now on they are going to be allowed to roam the house at night as a deterrent-come-alarm should they try the house next.

Not a nice feeling, especially as I spend so much time away.

Details on the radio controlled cars are:
Tamiya Avante 2001. This has no body work but does have a blue spoiler. It has a carbon fibre chassis and is 7.2v. The "2001" is part of its model name I actually got it in 1990, so as I was only 13 then this has a fair amount of sentimental value. Pic here: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/car.asp?id=85
The other one was a nitro powered "Thunder Tiger" and was only a couple of years old. Pic here: http://rchobbies.com.au/store/popup_image.php?pID=24736

Dan, just be aware, these mongrels tend to come back at a later date, usually after about a week, once they know what is at the premises.

Just a word or warning, it happened to Urbanmaser.

Sorry to hear of your woes.

Really sorry to hear this Dan. Matt is right, definitely be extra vigilant in case the scrotes (or their mates) decide to take another bite. Do you have security cameras?

Sorry to hear that Dan.

As others have said, I'd be extra vigilant with security from here on in given these low lives are now familiar with your premises.

Here's hoping they get what they deserve.

All the best mate.

Sorry to hear it Dan.

A quick and dirty solution would be to get a wall mounted key operated alarm, that detects movement. It emits a **** of a noise and with luck would make the perps leg it if they returned again. I used to have one and they are cheap and do the trick (pending any more expensive solution)

I have wireless motion-detector alarms in my outbuildings that emit a piercing noise when activated. In an enclosed space with no soft furnishings to soak the noise it is literally deafening - the scrotes would leave immediately without taking anything as their ears will be bleeding and you will be alerted by the noise. Around £25-£30 each from onlie specialists and probably DIY stores.

This sounds like the sort of thing I need to fit when I get home at the end of the week!
The more it plays on my mind the more angry I'm getting.

Unfortunately Dan ive been in your position several times in recent years , and yes in sleepy Worthing of all places , My house and garden and garage were all camera'd up on cctv , still took me 4 days to get a copper round altho the thieves were in plain indentifiable view , they didn't want to know to be honest , after that i got some big signs advertising the fact the place was alarmed and marked with smart water and that anyone reading the the sign was already on cctv , smart water is brilliant stuff and only around £30 , its irremovable and is has its own personal DNA particular to you , its still tracable up to years later

Do it Dan , just for the safety of your Missus and lttle one

Without saying i'll be keeping my eye on ebay im on the maserati site every other day ,

regards loz

If I were you Dan, I would take a walk around the surrounding area, they probably got ****** off with carrying one wheel and probably just pushed it off into the bushes somewhere, well, its not going to be easy to sell, now is it?

Whats the likelihood....if they nicked from the garage with the Lotus in it ...they think its a Lotus spare wheel?......

I once put the bare maser wheel up against the wheel and tyre of the Lotus and the 20" maser wheel was bigger! But, none the less, could be possible I s'pose.
I've also posted on the Lotus site....
