Must Not Stray From the Righteous Path

So I'm finding out what the old hands knew already - its hard to find the car you want. Having manned up and got over the fact that the fantasy GS in dark green (or blue) with...er COIOS? CIOU? COUSCOUS?...sod it, dark tan leather...doesn't exist, it seems there are hardly any dark blue and back combo's either. Just what was going on in '06 when the world went mad for black or silver and beige? A nice man told me today that it is the fault of the Australians - they pinched the interesting colours combos.

Which leaves the dilemma. Hang on for 'The Car' or move on and get 'A Car'...Don't worry about the outside because you spend 99% of your time on the inside...think about the resale...blah blah. Thing is - I just can't get excited about Grey (just a personal thing - no disrespect to owners of fine grey beasts...). And even if, in relative terms, GS are something of 'a bargain', its still a fair old wedge and I want to have opera going off in my head every time I clap eyes on it. Black...learning to like it. Must try harder.

"You might be in for quite a wait" said the man.

And then someone else called with what was, previously, the dream car: Gen II 997, super spec, good price in....dark green and tan. "No" I say. "Runs really well. I'll bring it over." "No!" "You won't get one like this in a hurry." "Bugger off!" "So you'd like a look then?"

I will not stray. I will not stray. I really want something with 400hp, back seats and interior plastics off an Alfasud...I will not stray.

It took me 3-4 months to find my first GranSport - right colour (copper?!) and also the right condition. Too many out there with worn leather and one too many stone chips.

Patience and all will play out. 911's are cracking cars but Maserati's have soul and will turn waaaay more heads. And people will make hand gestures towards you that are friendly. :)

The trouble is a gen 2 911 is a very well sorted piece of kit. Doesn't have the romance or the charm or the passion but it does have a place in my garage.

Be strong, Marwood, be strong.

You see, I'd disagree with this. Get *any* Gransport(1). Give in now, otherwise you're wasting time not getting 400BHP and a CC gearbox in your life ;)

C
(1) Condition / value considered, obviously.

100%, C. The strength I urged was to resist the Siren-song of the 997. Marwood will surely rejoice at being tickled by Dicky G into the cockpit of an Italian beauty (let's face it, who among us could resist?). He must avoid the German option at all costs.

Too right...I would understand if you wanted the Gen 11 911 ...... As all above not the passion but a better drivers car....All depends what's important to you...

Ahh, stick termination point selection error, then.

<clears throat>
Spurn the spwan of the Germans! They know naught of passion!

I'll go and lie down, now, I think :)

Most Germans I know get very excited about sausages and bottom jokes but get very serious about cars.
Says it all really.

I was going to mention sausages, but I think you've hit the nail on the head, there!
