Just heard that THE Russian aircraft carrier, Admiral Kuznetsov, was nearing completion of repairs but it caught fire.
They're really having some bad luck with that ship, it's floating dry dock sank, causing a crane to fall onto the flight deck causing a massive hole. It caught fire in 2019 and again yesterday.
Ironically, it was built in Ukraine in soviet days and would be allowed to pass through Turkey to access the Black Sea.

It’s a bit of a thing with carriers, the Americans lost a whole one last year.

A lot of their regulars were from poorer parts of the Russian Empire

Chosen so the amount of deaths aren't as obvious no doubt, if the body bags start arriving back by the thousands in Moscow it's hard to keep lying about how well its going..

Bonhomme Richard wasn't a true carrier. With the Kuznetsov, I can easily see sabotage as a factor. It happens everywhere...the Comte de Grasse was nicknamed "Ol' Thumper" after someone tossed a shot of chain into the reduction gear in order to stop a deployment from happening...

That said, the Admiral is not a feat of modern maritime warfare. Not too long after she launched, and during the tail end of the Cold War, we came upon her and she was unable to make potable water. Ship to ship preparations were made, as we weren't gonna just let their sailors die of thirst...but their government called off our aid provisions so as to avoid embarassment on the world stage...

"death by defenestration has a venerable history"
2.

It originated in Prague, the king used to throw enemies out of his window. I think this was before Wenceslas was around , he was good, crisp and even.

We can all see this escalating………. if the West were to support Ukraine to this level (which I agree with) they should have done it 11 months ago as soon as VP stepped over the line. Better still back in 2014 when he invaded Crimea.
That ship sailed a year ago Scaf. When Vladimir decided to launch his 'Liberation from Nazis' Operation,
in response to Ukraine's attacks on Russian territory military personnel and civilians.
No one expected the Russians to throw military doctrine out of the window alongside untrained conscripts,
tanks and other armoured vehicles. Giving the Ukrainians the opportunity to RSVP with a 'thanks, but no thanks'
message delivered by hundreds of RPGs.
NATO was unable to lower it's expectations of the Russians. As fast as the Russians were failing to meet them.
Making it very hard for NATO to gain the initiative. When the Russians didn't immediately roll right over the
Ukrainians, the Ukrainians were kind enough to issue holiday visas to tourists from Hereford, Coronado and Fort Bragg.
Who might've responded with a little advice, if asked. Along with some new hand-held toys for the Ukrainians to play with.
Back in 2014, NATO was just ending it's disastrous operations in Afghanistan and starting a long draw-down of forces.
Obama was in the middle of his Presidency and wasn't about to saddle Biden, who was expected to win in 2018, with a proxy war
on NATO's south eastern flank.
