MR SNUGGLES GOES TO FUNKYTOWN or VLADIMIR'S SPECIAL sex change OPERATION

At first glance. You may not think that Lipps Inc's Funkytown
has anything to do with the war in Ukraine. And you'd be right.
Apart from the fact that it was being recorded and produced
at the same time as the Russian Army was retreating from
Afghanistan in 1989.
Given it's the single biggest influence on our lives currently.
I'd suggest that we can't not have a thread about Ukraine.
So, in lieu of Meanwhile on the Ukrainian Border Redux,
I offer Funkytown by Lipps Inc. A song that almost always
makes you smile and hopefully, portends better times ahead.

Why was the Ukraine thread closed?

Because to degenerated into name calling, swearing and wasn’t car related.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t miss it at all. All it represents to me is a thread where people go to shout (type) their opinion into an abyss over and over. Occasionally the abyss shouts back with a retort, generally a ferocious disagreement. If there is the appetite to go on the ride one more time, then so be it.

The “Opening our Homes to Ukrainians” thread remains open, because a) it didn’t degenerate and b) was about people doing something good in a difficult situation.

Dance music links on the other hand, unlikely to result in “Global Thermonuclear Keyboard War”.

Hopefully the Ukrainians can continue defend themselves and push those vatniks back home. Its incredibly important to ensure the world sees that you cannot just start a war of aggression and win, especially with the current global trend towards authoritarianism

Slava Ukraini!

Sorry UA but it was more like recorded when they were entering into Afghanistan in 1980.

Going in or coming out. Not much difference Nibby. Unless you're Catholic and/or gay
But, you're right of course.
Forty three years ago.
Gawd. That's depressing!
If the Russians had've taken the hint and gone to Funkytown instead of Kabul,
thousands of Russian squaddies would've had a much more enjoyable vacation.

That's why it was in the Humour, jokes and other topics forum Zep.
An underdog, massively outnumbered, fights alone against an evil dictatorship.
Bent on dominating a continent.
That reminds me of something. At another time. World War something. WW1b?
No, that's not it.
Oh well. Perhaps someone will come along and know the answer to the mystery.
:conf1:

I don’t disagree, I am rooting for the underdog. My comments were specifically for the impact on the forum. I doubt anyone is coming here for up to date news in the conflict, and if they are, they shouldn’t.

Anyway, as you were, let see if it lasts.

1989 was a good year for music. If you were into house music anyway.
Such as this classic.

6music did an hour playing their previous album Newbuild, last Saturday and it's available on Sounds. If you know your acid, you should have this in your collection...

I don't believe that anyone imagined the thread was competing with the BBC, CBS or even Radio Orkney.
However, it was the appropriate place to ask questions and post snippets before they were picked up by
the media.
It was doing okay until you locked it Zep. Perhaps because the war is far from over and may yet have
worse implications for the rest of Europe. I didn't see the exchange that ended up in handbags.
First I knew was the thread was locked. Which in hindsight, seems a tad heavy handed.
"As you were"?
Anyhoo. Just my 3.9 Hryvnia :p

It’s not me, the mods all discuss it, and no it wasn’t, that’s why we were discussing it. Perhaps you didn’t see the posts that were removed.

Anyway, you’ve got your thread, so save your money :)
