I went to Motorhub to look at a MX5 ,it's in a multistory car park, every space full, ground floor was all exotics , cars got cheaper the higher you went, obviously the MX5 was on the roof, next stop off the roof into a skip , it was rough, so rough I didn't even ask for the keys

would not go back , the thought of spending 900k on a 16 year old veyron from there just boggles my mind

Always think it's strange when people put cars of anywhere near this value on eBay. When you're spending best part of a million quid you need to be sure its coming from a reputable dealer some thing that often sounds along way from Motorhub.

Interestingly none of the 4 Veyrons advertised on PH has more than about 3k miles on them even though two are 15 year old 08 plate, obviously not a car anyone wants to really drive ;)

Get publicity, doesn't it. Very cheap way of reaching a *lot* of people. I doubt any sell through ebay

Completely agree - every classic car I have owned in the past 20 years was found on eBay, even if the transaction was off line.

I actually quite like the spec of that Veyron.

Not sure under what circumstances I'd ever want a Veyron though.

ah Motorhub. For what it’s worth, I very much doubt that whether it sells or not is not important in the ahem grander, wider scope of the business. Ahem.
Much like any other of the cars that haven’t sold for five-ten years, like the adorably shonky LHD 2.5 Biturbo they have. I offered £3000 for it and they sharply turned it down. It’ll still be there for £7k in another five years time. But it doesn’t really matter - much in the same way a certain dealer in classic car mags will advertise the same overpriced Pagodas and V12 E-Types for all eternity. Much in the same way a lot of stables’ horses actually winning a race is bad for business.

As for the buying and comments they get online, and the quality of the cars… well; I’ve driven three Motorhub cars and all of them were restoration projects. The first Ghibli II I ever drove was a MH car being sold at auction. Ex Japan auto pre-456 rear suspension, it was a dog. Cut out at less than 3000rpm, which on a photoshoot is all the time. Had a Japanese alarm system that bidded you good morning in Japanese when you clicked it on, which was cute for the first 30 times but not then next 120.

Then there was the 164 Q4 and the Audi V8 saloon. The 164 was roadworthy but in need of love, the V8 looked like someone had let off a dirty bomb inside. However, at the time, they were the only examples on sale anywhere in Europe (164) or the UK (Audi).

What I’m getting at is that if they’ve got something spectacularly rare, and you go into it knowing that it’s at best a rolling restoration project, then as long as it’s not a buy-one-get-one-free affair in the chassis… then I’d probably do it. I very nearly did with the 164. There is - or was - some very rare AC Schnitzer, AMG, Alpina, Hammann, Hartge stuff that you simply can’t get in Germany, let alone the UK. If that’s your thing, then you’ve not got a lot of choice.
However if your car choice is somewhat less rare, then I’m not sure why you’d go the MH route.

You can't possibly think it's some kind of money laundering scheme?

I would never type or say such a thing…

Very sensible. It would clearly be potentially libellous to state that their business model might possibly be a front for some other activities! So I won't type that

They get very letter write-y if you even write facts regarding their run ins with ombudsmen that are widely available on the non-car internet and newspapers.
Sadly, certain car websites are beholden to their ad spend and other car newspapers have a dismaying lack of minerals to report clear facts.
However, this is also the case with a fair few dealers; but for some reason - and this is where the moral maze starts to become twisted - MH get singled out for reasons that, er, shall we say are distasteful on the part of those singling them out.
