Looks like one of mine is knackered as well. HD looks OK, but can't test it as apparently I have this CD drive around, but I can't be trusted to use it.....

Mine arrived today as well Drew; just finished watching it... Fortunately (for everybody's sake) my face doesn't appear particularly prominantly in the video, only the back of my head lol. It was great to see several familiar friendly faces on there, including Mr & Mrs MLC, Robert, Steve, Phil C, Drew, Merrian, Ben,....

Thanks again Drew for arranging this with the Maseratitude forum guys.

Looking forward to seeing people again at the SM Xmas dinner :)

I know I am waiting on mine and looking forward. Still brings a smile to my face. That drive back with Glenise shouting at us was top entertainment. How many times did you miss that exit? Lol

Yeah, that was rather amusing. I think it was 3; well that's what I'm claiming, Glenise will probably say it was 5 lol.

Let me know how you get on C - I'll sort replacements if necessary... Can't imagine what Royal Mail have been doing to some of them!

Jumping up and down, apparently. It is extraordinary that my 'small form factor' laptop has a CD drive built in. That I can't be allowed to use.

And yet I own security for our entire operation.

Corporate IT is like giving a child a fast road bike, then chaining them to it, putting it on a track, adding stabilisers and wrapping the whole thing in cotton wool.

I have a new hobbby

It's persuading them to give me a mac book air.

So far the reasons I can't have one:
1) It's 0.16 lb lighter, so I won't notice the difference. (It's actually 600g before we take into account the power breeze block my Dell comes with.
2) My applications won't work. What? Office doesn't work on a Mac? Well that's a new one. Better tell MS
3) I can only have one if I am developing Mac specific applications. Like our SVP of global delivery, then?
4) It's too expensive. It's coming out of my budge which I have full autonomy over.
5) We don't support them. Apart from the fact I really don't (after 15 years running support operations for Macs) *need* support, what do all the Mac developers and the SVP do?
6) It's not secure. (!)
7) We can't trust you to secure it (See my post about owning security?)

I might get bored in a couple of months, and simply skip up a level or two, but right now it's quite amusing. I guess I need to get out more.

Lol I might be in the same boat C come laptop replacement time as I am getting annoyed with frequent freezes on my current Dell machine.

Mine's not even 1 year old. It takes longer to resume than my Mac does to boot from cold. It frequently forgets what its wireless card is for, the battery lasts about 90 minutes. All good fun :)

1 = we don't want to go outside our comfort zone. Hopefully this pathetic excuse will make you go away.

2 = we don't know what it is you actually want here, and finding out is not part of my job description. Please go away.

3 = well, you can have one, but only if we can point any issues back to the **** software you developed so you take the blame....or bring in enough revenue each year to pay our combined salaries for the next ten...sir, yes Sir!

4 = you still here? Go talk to accounts for a while, maybe you'll give up then!

5 = P.O.L.I.C.Y.
Policy policy policy policy policy...fingers in my ears, can't hear you! Look, I'm closing my eyes too; that means you've gone away now.

6 = listen to the voice of authority as we protect the innocent children from the paedophile terrorists.

7 = Me Tarzan, You Imbecile.

Can't wait for the next instalment.

Spot on, CB :)

I may invite her to a meeting to discuss her concerns. That might while away an hour or two. Or, I could grab the Execs to which she has to report Mac usage *weekly* next time we're in the pub and ask them.

What do we think would be funnier?

Schedule a meeting to discuss your concerns and 10 weekly follow-up meetings. Show them you mean business!!!

Chris,

I suggest you ask her for a cost centre code to cross charge your wasted hours of work whilst you wait for your machine to function properly and waste endless time requesting a new laptop from IT. That may sharpen her focus. I also love CB's idea of weekly follow up meetings!
