Maserati Granturismo Vs Audi R8

Do a Google image search on "Audi TT R8" and see all the lame attempts to make a TT look like an R8. Of course there's a family resemblance but the profile proportions are very, very different. Also, the R8 driver is going to be having a very different driving experience to the TT driver. I couldn't give a toss what the average punter thinks of a car. I know we own Italian cars and therefore need them to have flaws which give them 'character', but surely there's got to be some respect for a decent bit of engineering?

Exactly. Take the Nissan GT-R. Doesn't look particularly good, doesn't sound all the good and generally has the wrong image for me. But what a car!

Bang on mate. Couldn't agree more.

Is a 458 Speciale boring? Doubt it.

Obviously, in the interests of balance (and this being a Maserati forum), I have to point out that I chose a GS over the R8 and GTR and don't regret it one bit! Just need to work out how I can own all 3...

Whatever the opinions are in this debate of Maserati vs Audi, I would take a short wheel base Quattro rally over most cars - what an incredible car this is!

That is pure filth. I'm having a crisis...

I think this is one of THE best car adverts ever. The simplicity and focus is epic. R8s always left me cold until I saw this ad campaign and left me seriously thinking about a V10.

I really really wish it wasn't a Nissan. There's, admittedly and unfortunately, some brand snobbery that comes in and their 90'scars I cannot get out of my head "I drive a Nissan" I would struggle with.

But what a car. That acceleration is just awesome. It is a crazy car.

It is rather good isn't it!

Friend took me out in his Litchfield modified GTR - about 600bhp.

The only time I have felt the blood drain from my legs as we accelerated away, beating a 600cc kawasaki sports bike from a standstill. Absolutely mental. He is very open to the fact it is heavy and has a drab interior. He loves the GS I own, but the pair of us agreed that they were very different beasts and the world was a better place for that kind of difference.

As for the R8 - fair play to Audi for making it and generally the praise it has garnered. I sat in one and it didn't flick my switches, but I do smile when I see one as it makes a change from the household applicance 2l diesel boxes that dominate our roads.

Current number of GTs (all models) for sale on auto trader 133 and total R8s 230.....GT in my oppinion if far more exclusive and when it comes to the MCs there are far fewer made:-)

This is going to be controversial, but do the low numbers potentially show that people who could afford a Ferrari, Maserati, R8 etc didn't choose the Masser? Granturismos weren't on a limited run.

I don't want Maserati to turn into a Porsche but maybe if they'd of sold more Granturismos we might have had a new Alfieri sooner than a 4x4 Levante.

God I hate all the 4x4 being made by sports car companies.

You have a very valid point rossyl......and I certainly do not disagree with your point.......Maserati is still something of an unknown to many and no matter what we think the company still has a stigma around it from its past as unreliable and expensive to maintain cars.........where as Audi has the opposite I suppose. It takes a very long time to shake off a reputation and although it is loads better than it has been with the cars they make now they are still Italian and that would be enough to put some off and go German...........I think you are pretty spot on with that comment........
