I chatted to a dealer friend yesterday (CEO of a big chain with circa 60 dealerships and 2000 staff). As I understand it, it’s illegal for them (or anyone) to collect or deliver a car sold now, but customers can pay deposits to reserve cars, for collection/delivery when the lock-down ends. So if you see a car you like, you can reserve it - but you will be buying sight unseen, so a risk if it’s a private sale on eBay (or similar).
That isn’t as I understand it. As they’ve got showrooms etc they’ve been asked to close due to lockdown. We are allowed to go to work (If we cannot work from home). If this is to hand over a car, using social distancing and anti bac the car etc, then that isn’t illegal. What is illegal is for someone to come and view a car, as it isn’t an essential journey, strangely unless they’re in the trade, as then, they’re going to work.
