Dem maser.....don't take it personally....Maserati/Ferarri/Lamborghini have all had to take stock of their failing situations and put up or shut up....but then thats been the history for many marques since the start of the mass production car! Certainly, filling profitable niche markets when they exist, is one of the many ways they can make money and keep our favourite marque alive......in previous decades even more bizarre actions have been taken to keep the money coming in...............not sure if they are selling any "soul" the marque has but.....................needs must on occasions!

As per the article in the S Times today ALL the "old" British marques if they aren't owned by Germans then they are definitely being managed by Germans......whats an English man to do?

Please don't be upset......do write down the Maserati crisis help line......999........ooopppsssssss....have forgotten Lozs number already.....;)

Yep the Maserati Chrysler TC...oh the shame of it!...still links like this kept the mark alive to bring the Coupe, QP and GT...lets forget this moment of madness and revell in the future...even if it does take 125 AAAs'

Bucket please. Yuk.

Dem, lets just hope common sense prevails, if no body buys them they will fail.

I am sure Maserati know where their market is now, there will always be a certain percentage like us that don't want to conform. It does make one feel uneasy whenever these reports surface, oh well, just keep the GS or 3200 then.

Maybe Fiat have seen that they have 3 sports brands competing for the same market, Maserati is already re-positioning itself as a GT executive car maker, leaving Ferrari to tend to the hardcore racers, maybe leaving Alfa to slot in nicely at the upper mid price sports car that Maserati use to occupy maybe?

if i remember correctly maserati mooted the idea of a 4x4 some years back but shelved the project. called the kubang

estate vesions of the qp have already been done as one offs.

i dont think maserati have space at their factory for anymore lines than they currently operate and planning permission for additional buildings on their site has been rejected.this is why body shells from ferraris paint shop are housed under canvass.i think our exclusivity is safe for the near future at least.

I've already posted what I think about bringing in grey ex-VW company men to run Maserati in another thread, any SUVs or the like and Maserati can f**k off as far as I'm concerned. It already seems their marketing dept. is run entirely by women, the marque is close to becoming the Vuitton of the motoring world. When is the Beckham version QP coming out, or the Victoria?

As for the Chrysler Maserati (Le Baron), it was never a Maserati, just a US piece of **** with a few tweaks and a couple of ridiculous badges stuck on to it, wake up!

If Maserati were to bring out an SUV or a budget car or a hairdresser's car I would also move on. Perish the thought of a Maserati deisel or a main stream Maserati. I love the exclusive image of Maserati and the mystique surrounding that badge. Don't go an ruin all that hard work done by Ferrari pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Quite often statements such as this are released to test the mood; all dressed up to sound like strategy, but in actual fact just a bit of open-forum brainstorming. They've done it before with the Kubang and it came to nothing, and we live in a very different world now. To design and tool up for a completely new product (apart from the fact that they haven't the space as Rob mentions) would cost multiple £M's and they'd have to weigh up the fact that they're a small volume producer going up against the likes of Range Rover, Cayenne, X5, Q7 and the Merc' M's. Not a chance in **** in my humble opinion. Oh, and by the time it got to market petrol would be £3.00 a litre!

As for a QP estate, count me in. That could be a **** fine car along the lines of the shooting brake or cinqueporte. Completely in keeping with the Maserati spirit.

Morning all

Yes, it would seem I'm venting my drunken fury in the dead of night, slipping further and further downwards into the bottle. But this is not the case, I am now GMT + 7 hrs, so when I do post I'm in my office, clear-minded and full of enthusiastic bounce. The video of a snivelling nonentity paying homage to The Awards Quattroporte however, has a way of raising my blood pressure to dangerous highs. To be honest the whole company has been a bit on the slide since some marketing tool came up with "excellence through passion" - or is it the other way round? Rarely does one find cheese as ripe and aromatic as that catchy little phrase.

I don't think dog and welly ferrying versions are in line with Maserati tradition, but then again the whole world has gone totally f***ing loopy, so who cares? Ferrari 456 (one-off?) and AM Virage Shooting Brakes were made in tiny numbers, but this was more to cater for extravagant Arabs with more money than sense.

I think it has to do with my lifelong infatuation with the brand coming to an end, like a passionate but stormy relationship that has finally passed the point of no return, so hatred sets in and I'm looking for flaws rather than wishing to cover them up at all costs.

Doesn't matter that much, in a way it's nice to be liberated from the spell, it's only a machine after all, I'll just have to find something else that will fire-up my enthusiasm in the same way Maserati used to. And I'm not in any way sad, just an honest opinion. I'd fill the bloody page full of smiley icons but I don't like' em and don't where they are.

Good to hear from you loz, have you made it three Maseratis yet, or are you sticking with two for now?

That is correct. I have an electronic brochure of the Kubang. However, it is way too late to launch a 4x4/SUV and I really don't think Maserati will do one in the foreseeable future.

The Maserati Turdi perhaps, or Turdo?? The Maserati Turdo Turbo is kinda catchy. The Maserati Turdo Turbo Oscar Awards Edition, or is that overkill?

Wheel out and wind up the charming German once again and have him say a few words. Perhaps launch it on a new cookery programme featuring James Martin, Jodie Kidd will be on set, providing the goodies. They should all wear the new Maserati trainers, I mean, this should be classy right?

I get the idea Marlon , and to be honest i agree that advertising budgets could be spent better elsewhere, as with a lot of companies nowdays there catering for new money chavs , better said without the use of the local rice wine /whisky obviously has an agressive side Im, partial to a bit of Thai whisky, but it doesn't agree with me in the mornings
