Hi

Been reading this with interest & am looking to lower the car by around 10-15mm.

I have measured the gaps between the centre of the wheel & the underside of the arches all round the car & they differ from side to side by as much as 10mm (fuel tank on reserve & no driver).

I decided to measure the threads left on the shockers. I have 50mm of thread left below the locknut at the front & 95mm at the rear which are even from side to side on both the front & rear regardess of the differences in the arch gaps. Strange!

Can anyone give me their dimensions for the threads left below the locknut on the shockers after they have lowered the car?

Does anybody have the actual geometry figures for the suspension/tracking once this has been done? I did see someone had mentioned FD settings when using their springs but couldn't see the actual figures anywhere.

Thanks Lee

Finally got around to lowering the car today well I say lowered one corner only.Started at the rear near side a little bit of a pig but successfully dropped by 20 turns ,moved around to the other side bottom nut no problem top one moved about 5 turns than 2 hours later hadnt got it to move any further by this time the light was going and the nut was looking a little worse for ware ,so gave up . Need to order a new nut and cut the old one off now . I'll have a go at the fronts tomorrow hopefully a little bit more sucsessfull .one of those jobs you start but wish you hadn't.

Oh, how I know that feeling!! David Askew helped me out with a replacement nut. Best of luck with the rest.

Bumping this again

Jon - how did you get on with the lowering project?

Hi simon sorry for the late update but yesterday I finally finished lowering the car , its lowered to 660mm from the ground to the centre of the arch at all 4 corners ,it sits so much better and seams to handle better to.This was achieved by 20 turns rear and 17 turns on the front .

A big thanks to Andrew for all the info ,hopefully see you at the next meet and I'll buy you a beer.

Here a PIC

Hi Jon

Car looks great, a noticeable improvement, the new lower stance looks much better. I've just looked at mine to compare and they look very similar having had Giallo do the work on mine.

It looks so good I'm thinking of getting mine done. Has it made a difference to the ride quality and how does get on with speed bumps?

A little to soon to know about the ride but speed bumps are not a problem , it does seem to handle better and feel more planted though .

Hi Tony

When my was lowered they also set up the geometry properly, and have to say the car definitely feels more planted and stable. It also looks much better ;-)

Hw did you get the lock rings off? I had a very quick go at mine and they seem very tight, I wander if there is a trick to it?

You will need spring compressors to release the tension, then clean up the thread and only use the correct C spanner or you will crack the ring, and the spring will fail.

Also, as a guide and as to not bugger up your geo, put a spirit level on the sill and mark the incline so you have a guide to get the front and back corresponding.

I couldnt get spring compressors so used jubilee clips but be carefull!!

Almiche for the lock rings i soaked them in wd40, gently tapped them with hammers and went for a drive. Did this on the 2 nights before i attempted the lowering and they came easily... And thats on my 02.
