i have a seat arosa as my 2nd car, its a 1.4tdi its the most economical car ive ever had does 60mpg and i leave most people 0-30mph
my one is about 3k but you can buy an older 2001 for 1k i really recommend them, im on the motorway and it does drive brilliant, has 150 torque so its good

Seat sounds like a good idea, 60mpg sounds good too, will at that to the shopping cart!

Thanks, another good idea! My neighbour works forthe local Audi Dealership maybe I should ask him to keep an eye out for me, I know they usually offload their P/EX cars to Blackbushe so I could save them the time & effort.

I'd thoroughly recommend the lowly Ford Focus. Plenty to be had, super-reliable and, should they need anything, cheep and chips for parts.

Agree with Miles.....They are great cars and were top in their class....You could do a lot worse.

as much as i like the new focus i find the old ones a little unreliable, ive known people with them and they nearly all complained about clutch issues and these diesel particulate filters that are expensive to fix so avoid an old diesel

We got a 2002 focus 1.6 zeetec, had it from new, now done 78K and the only thing that went wrong was the coil pack, never missed a beat but the clutch is starting to show its age, personaly i have a 1.6 M reg astra, paid 400 quid for it and it gets me round europe no probs, brilliant little car, got it with 60K on the clock and its nearlly 90K now, but i want now not just a run about but somthing of a toy also whilst the massa is of the road, love to get an Alfa GT but rather spend the money on the massa so im thinking of an Alfa spider at the moment 1500 quid will get you a nice motor :)

P.s. it has nothing to do with me starting my mid life crisis, but i have never owned an alfa before

Tragic (if selling!) that they are worth so little isn't it, my 55k 1998 156 2.5V6 is probably not even worth four figures......

Tell you an Alfa I always wanted...164 Cloverleaf...One the clssifieds £2500 with 148k on the clock...They have gone up in value.....Always loved the 164..More than the 166 to be honest...Nearly bought a 3L once..Torque steer was frightening...Much fun to be had.

164, bit ugly IMO, so is the 166, just too long.

prob with these old alfas you will need more to get it to your standard, if its a run around you dont want it to set you back 3k your better off buying something you can give stick to and still be reliable, ***, german etc.. an alfa is a special car and should be bought by enthusiast that dont just want it as a complete runaround, i cant drive an alfa to a supermarket because if i get a dent ill still be crying
