So am I missing something here.....Only this week the government said....You can go back to work but walk, go on a bike, use you car and try not to use public transport........So now they go and put this charge back in which will stop some using cars and going on public transport surely.....Talk about two things contradicting themselves....Can't say I envy anyone living in the big smoke at the moment....In little old Momouthshire we have had one death and no new cases this week.......Not a fan of the Welsh minister but it does feel that they are doing something right. Keep safe if you are in the big city all.

I just read a post on another forum

A guy has to occasionally work in central london , typically the job takes him 4 hours , his van isn't ULEZ compliant but is perfectly serviceable so no intention of spending 25k to replace it

To do the 4 hour job his costs excluding fuel ,tax insurance etc will be

£15 congestion charge
£12.50 ULEZ charge
4 hours parking @ £4.25 PH
4 hours diesel surcharge on the parking @ £3 PH
£56.50

That’s ridiculous. I can’t believe there’s another forum.

I’m through with the capital completely and have zero intention of ever going there, least of all by car. It annoys me that it gets in the way and I have to go round it to get to see family on the South coast. Arrogant, overpriced, overcrowded, self regarding sh-hole. About time it just went the full hog and became the Singapore style city state that it really wants to be. Give the rest of us our independence

Clearly another forum.

For this mob on here comprise only day traders, the upper echelons of public administration and retired merchant bankers. 'work' is tantamount to berating the butler for failing to park the Stradale out front.

You go to that other place to remain grounded.... I appreciate that.

Please continue to bring us word from what you hear in this other place.

It's amazing how angry people are getting about something they never (or very rarely) do.

:)
My blood is boiling... And i live half a world away.

I really do want to be incensed by all this, i just can't tell which side I'm meant to be on. Which agitates me even more.

Where does Ms Thunberg stand in all this? That might help me...

London is destroying itself in many ways but some like it.

The laughable and ironic thing about the congestion charge is that is was brought in to reduce, traffic, pollution and create a better London. It has done none of those things.

It is now a hard place to do work from a supplier point of view. More expensive and less desirable to do work for customers.

Why do they call it a congestion charge? Stop dressing it up. Rename it a tax. That is what it is.

Thing is, as demonstrated by the uproar, people are deterred. That's the aim.

I'm really not bothered by it, despite it potentially effecting me.

Going up from £12 to £15, isn't much.

London is always very busy, so it applying on the weekends makes as much sense as it applying during the week.

As for complaining about the price of parking, that ship sailed decades ago when garages started to be worth serious money.

It becomes a problem when you have to do jobs for customers in London and have to drive as you have so much kit onboard but find it hard to find parking. Then have to trolley your kit to the customer. I'm getting too old for those shenanigans

I suspect soon many trades won't want to do any work in London or if they do it will be chuffin expensive.

<goes against the flow, again>

I love London. I love working in London, I love the buzz and rattle. I love being able to 'beat' it. I love the pubs, the awesome restaurants, the people, the architecture and the streets.

Lots of it is ****. And I love it because I don't have to. I have the choice. Which is denied to many.

Pretty sure I'd not choose to live there.

There are a number of good jobs outside of Central London in my industry.

I only want to work in London.

I love London, I love being sociable, I love the hundreds of excellent restaurants, I love the theatres, and I love the pubs and bars.

I also love how diverse and multi-cultural it is, I think for some on here (unfortunately) it's something they don't. That's probably a major reason why I wouldn't live in some other parts of the UK.

In short I love the amount of stuff London has got going on, at all times.

You get lots of restaurants, and pubs and multiculturalism in other UK cities. Many are easy to get in and out of too

Public transport makes getting in and out very easy. It has a better public transport than any other UK city.

Also, "lots" of restaurants? My dear boy, there's barely enough to count on one hand...
