I had Larinis on my 4200 and took them off again because they were a bit loud for me – though I think that’s partly because mine was the Spyder so there's less noise insulation. They do make an amazing sound though.

Larinis on a 3200 is a completely different proposition – the sound is very different and I was quite happy with them on my AC. I also found that on the 3200 the noise was far less intrusive…on the motorway with the 3200 there was barely any additional noise. The standard boxes on the 3200 area bit too quiet in my opinion.

The turbos will quieten the exhaust note as they take quite a lot of energy out of the gas stream so they can stand straight through/Larini rears without tearing the 4rse out of the neighbourhood.

I'll see how I get on with them, it's not a daily driver, but I am surprised the number of owners who have taken them off.
I was surprised the first time I drove her with them fitted, with the amount of low speed drone in the cabin, just moving off in traffic, not on the open road.
There must be a cure, are Tubi's the same?

I think it is a question of harmonics once all the padding has been removed. I have a bit of a boom spot on mine but I just keep the revs higher so it's not a problem. Mine probably has a drone zone too but, having been married for 23 years, I can blank it out!

Got my straight thru's fitted today.

Its clear the turbos on a 3200 do a lot to reduce the noise, so don't try straight through pipes if you have a 4200.

So what don they sound like?

Not hugely louder inside the car, no drone or booming.

Outside?? AWESOME! Wife and neighbours are moaning already.

Took her out for a run this afternoon, the first time with them fitted with it not raining!
Getting more used to them, does not appear to be as loud at low rpm with it not raining, makes no sense I know, but still a spike at around 2,500 rpm. I can live with that.
What I have noticed, that was not apparent in the rain, is the lovely blip on down shift...now with a little crackle on overrun, cheer ****!!!

larini sports decats -install

Seeking performance improvement (bhp) without necessarily increasing cabin/exterior noise levels by removing crappy secondary cats & replaced with Larini Sports Cats

Installation approx.1 hr subject to hoist/tools. Perfect fit
Centre section (X pipe) & back boxes remain OEMs

(The X pipe/resonator on the GS whilst a straight thru, has perforated internal pipe length for exhaust to circulate around the resonator. May consider Larini upgrade at a latter time)

Outcome
-Inside cabin: actually quieter, droning @ 80kph/2000rpm which was annoying now almost eliminated
(Sorry Benny)

-External: bark/note more or less the same, maybe a tad quieter.

-Performance: most noticeable, far more responsive in 1st & 2nd: although not measured, would deliver the reputed 10 bhp and then some.

Summary: Worth while upgrade if u can buy these pieces at a good price;

This very deep drone less than 3000 rpm, I've done a bit of digging, appears common with the Larini rear boxes.
An old post suggested that the larini link pipes solves the problem, and one member confirms this.
From the larini web site:

http://www.larinisystems.com/collection/maserati/4200/larini-rear-exhaust-link-pipes

"does not vibrate or drone"

Don't know how much these pipes are, but worth investigating...

definately worth having done , ive got the complete system including the part that removes the squished pipes and had the sports cats, and H pipe ,, link pipes and valved boxes still music to my ears 3 years later , definately no drone or resonance at any speed valves open or closed ............................go for it
