Larini cats

Dear forum, it's my first post here, some of you remember me under the name ''saabnikos'' at the maseratiforum..

I have some trouble with my cats: about a month ago i installed the larini front section, and today (!!) i took her for a ride.A couple of times i could hear some noise(like metal kicking) from downside.I'll drive her to the service tomorrow, but i just wonder what might have happened.
You know, the trouble installing this should be the clearance of the two front sets of double pipes coming after the manifold. To me it's about 5mm.IS that too close?
What else could be happening?
Thanks in advance.

It sounds like your valves in your back box, does it go away when you put the sport button on?

If so, you need to spray some WD40 up the tail pipes with the valves in and work them.

Failing that, get it back up on a ramp and run the car, it will be easy to find the source of the noise.

If its a metallic tinkling/particles type noise....could be your cats breaking up..........if a vibration type tinny noise its a heat shield.........but need to get it up an look and listen!

Hi Nikos, Welcome to the forum!

This is most likely the cats catching on the front sub-frame. The Larini's replace the old squish-pipe section, which was very restrictive, but did allow a little more clearence. This can be adjusted on the fixings with spacers. Just ask your mechanics to adjust. Half an hours work tops.

Cheers, Miles.

Hi Miles, with front sub-frame, you mean the black steel that is tightened vertical down the cats?

Hi Nikos, It's basically as your original post. The picture below shows the cats and the rear of the front sub-frame / anti-roll bar.

It's the rear front sub-frame 'strut', that gets in the way. I had exactly the same thing, with exactly the same occasional knocking. My garage managed to 'set' the cats higher on their fixings by packing them to get a little more clearance.

Cheers, Em.

Hi Em, i understand, but my question is, if we set the cats a bit higher, then the front section(the double pipes) will hit the chassis on the other side.(on the picture that you attached, is where the letters "tems" are.).
She'll got to the mechanic tomorrow, so more noew to come!
yia sou dem Maser, thanks for your message!

Hi Nikos, My guys were able to lift the cats above the rear sub-frame strut (just) without fouling the steering rack shield. You're right, there's not a lot to play with, but on mine at least there was enough. Let us know how you get on tomorrow? Cheers, Em.

Good news..it seems that it was the right cat hitting the front sub-frame.I pushed it a little up, by unscrewing the mounting near the cat, and the story is over. Now there is clearance behind, as long as clearance(only a few mm) front.I drove her to the garage back, to pick up my day car, without a noise. On Sunday i'll be able to tell for sure that the noise is over, where i'll take her for a longer drive.
Thank you all for your feedback!

Well, you all might have heard in the news, that Greece is the black sheep of the European economy.Things are not that good now here, so if i park the car in front of the Parthenon, maybe later on i will find her damaged, with stolen tyres and with graffiti on the doors..!That's why i'll try to make pics of the Greek landscape, as the only thing i do with my 4200 are trips.
For now i send you a picture from downside..!
