Well after I though if was going so well...

Coming off if a round about on the A36 I noticed white smoke from the rear, backing off and the smell of coolant came through. It's coming from the nearside turbo area - is there a coolant hose that attaches to the turbos?

Should be two attached to the impella cases [snail shell things that contain the inducter fans]

Was a very nice day, and I had my sun factor 50 in the door so I made the most of it!

The RAC turned up and it was a chap (Phil) from my home town. Turned out to be the most positive and helpful RAC employee I have ever met. He managed to find a replace the split hose with another he had spare. So I drove home, which was astounding. If he reads this I cannot thank him enough for all the effort and two hours under the car.

This is the offending hose;

I guess he enjoyed the opportunity to work on something a bit special instead of the mundane Euroboxes... Well done RAC :)

Great result. I had exactly the same happen on my 3200 a few years ago. Quite worrying when it happens. These pipes are now 11 years old at their newest, so worth checking. Mine happened when I was close to home, so I ended up hiring a trailer and towing it all the way to Giallo for repair - v. expensive. With the help of the forum I am now so much braver when tackling these sort of things myself, wish I'd had the support/knowledge then.

At 10 years old I'm thinking of changing mine out anyway... Hate the thought of perished hoses and these beasties run hot with so much engine in that bay, you guys with the turbos have a lot more heat to deal with...

nothing to worry about any more than every other component on our cars, Beau. If I had a 3200 I would be investing in a full replacement of every hose in silicone.

I had exactly that thought; if this hose has failed what are the others like - its only a matter of time before another goes. The real issue is getting to the inner pipes between the V section.

Does anyone make a full kit for these cars? Normally it's just the radiator.

I'll certainly be contacting the RAC to let them know how good he was.

It may have been Gavin (green 3200) that changed them all last year, I know someone was doing it and I think they were struggling for Silicone ones for the V, well worth a search.
