Just spent nearly a million quid on a new garage for the Maserati and it wouldn't fit..............

That's the one, and still better vfm than properties in London. If I had that sort of money I would love to go for something like this:

Yes I know the restoration costs have to be factored in, but what price when it's done?

Strangely, I know that little road quite well, as it used to be one of the little dog-legs on my horrible commute between Stroud and Bournemouth 10 years ago.
And Sandy Lane is a weird little place full of Hobbit-houses.

lovely grounds, doesn't look in bad nick, bit of plastering, some nice woodchip paper and artexed ceilings would sort the internals out fairly swiftly

Virginia Water... I thought it looked Russian.

I used to live down the road (geographically and financially) but came back to clean air and no M25/M3 perpetual noise a decade and a half ago. It has always been very diverse population wise - international schools in area - remember Gen. Pinochet hid there for a while. What surprises me is how much that house costs when it is not overlooking the golf course.

Continuing the comparison just for the h3ll of it, the following two properties are local to me and are/were available with a combined price of £7.1m as opposed to £6.65m for the mews place in London.

The first was offered last year at c£4m, following restoration after a major fire.

https://www.countrylife.co.uk/prope...n-facilities-good-let-olympic-champion-205506

The second is currently on offer at £3.1m

Five minutes on property websites make me wonder just what the attraction of London is, but then I'm just a simple country boy.

Well, my late father-in-law's house in Malvern is for sale for 'offers over £1m' following a major rebuild after a big fire in 2016, if you are interested in that sort of thing. It's actually under offer at the moment, but things are moving a bit slowly.

I have always been amazed about the prices differences when you cross the channel...

That’s what you get in the north of France for £300k... looks like a nice holiday house for the price of a studio flat in London

And for the price of a 1 bedroom, you can buy yourselves of a Lord estate

Given the examples above, is the London bubble sustainable or will it burst one day?

Not if you're someone who can work from home and many have done that over the last two months.
That's what I was thinking. One thing CV has done is to force companies to work differently and in the process re-examine their operating costs. Just as airports are now under threat so, I suspect, will be expensive city centre offices.

Interesting times ahead I think.

Ive been researching French property prices and have noticed a serious downturn since Phil moved there.
Purely a coincidence I’m sure.

France is certainly exceptional value indeed and something for everyone.
I'm sure I've said many times it's a nice place to live too.
They might not understand your accent though Wattie ;)
