Thanks for the comments and all taken on board.

You only get 24 pics on an eBay ad but get loads on PH. Might need to get a better camera and take some more in better light.

Pictures are OK on my phone with not blur to them at all.

The offer last night was indeed from a dealer and sounds like he has a customer for it or thinks he can turn a profit on it to sell retail at a higher price. They have offered £14k which is a pretty good trade offer for no hassle, risk or grief but holding fire for a bit as my bottom line was a bit higher than that and no rush to sell. I'd made my mind up to sell private so had the wheels refurb'd with new PS4S tyres and new centre caps. So if I hadn't have done that and sold trade then I'd be better off but didn't expect any trade offers to be around that level. Motorway and WBAC were less but it is a hard car to value really.

I can say I think it is worth more but unless the market agrees then it is just a pointless opinion. Can't see it moving in price that much if at all even if I kept it another 3 months to spring.

That's a nice car, very tempted. I just valued it on autotrader, they recommend putting it up at around £13k as a private seller. A £14k bid from trade does indeed sound attractive so rules me out unfortunately

Get car and keen price but realistically you might get an extra 500 maybe a grand from a private buyer but how long will it take, if its just sitting being watched by its replacement maybe just take the money and put it in your pocket hassle free.

The thing is Autotrader value is rubbish plus when you look there are only two more for sale and both are over 19k. Rare car and at 16k seems a good buy. The dealer will probably sell for a 19/20 maybe. Still maintain it’s a lot of car for the money and a good price.

Not sure about Rubbish, probably a realistic price for a relatively quick sale based on similar aged vehicles on their platform that were last sold. Trade will need to factor in stocking and potential PX upon resale costs etc.

A nice position to be in if you are OK to sell to a trader for the OP

My wife sold her Nissan about a month ago privately. Autotrader said it was worth 3k private and we got 4K for it privately.

Its probably in their interest to also keep sellers realistic, but I hear what you say too

I don't tend to take much notice of what guides say on cars that are not easily comparable or plentiful.

My Chimaera was a prime example. Collecting Cars didn't want to list it for more than £20k initially and made a list offer at £22.5k of which I declined. Sold it in a week for £27.5k.

When cars like the XJL SS hit their bottoms the price doesn't really move much after this. I doubt the price would be much different in a year.

The XFR seems to have many more examples around and values have suffered because of it as they are much lower. Rightly so IMHO as there is a big different between an XF and XJ.

I think you're right. And specifically with cars that have a 'pedigree' and potential high costs, an example that can be demonstrated to be cared for, and above and beyond is going to break the pricing algorithms.

FWIW had I not had my Ghibli (and the XJ being even bigger) that would have been a no brainer for me to replace the XF without even driving it. At the original price. I don's make that comment for anything other than buying a car from someone you know has looked after it really outweighs many of the negatives. Everything else that goes wrong later is just bad luck <shrug>

Huge amount of car for the cash.

Agreed. Certainly happens on QPVs. You'd much rather spend a few k more on a looked after one in fine fettle than a cheaper less well looked after example.

I've got space in the garage after the 4200 and Chimaera have now gone so no worries keeping it for a bit of it doesn't sell yet for my bottom line price or above.

I think there's a fair point about taking the dealer offer though. I am a 'rare' buyer that I needed a car, I had certain requirements and I knew the seller.

Not sure how many others there would be.....

Great car for the money. Like Maseratis though, a small pool of private buyers I’d guess. Dealers will want a fairly large margin on a complex car too.
There’s still some of us about though who realise it’s actually much cheaper than leasing some new bore fest. And you get to drive about in a high end luxury car.
My QP GTS has only cost me about £200/month to own over the last 3 years and 15k miles including ALL maintenance, repairs and depreciation, which is pretty much zero.

I guess this jag would be similar. It’s a no brainier, to me.

I'd agree and am going to go back to the dealer to see if we can work deal. There is a price worth paying for ease and safety of a deal. Just need to narrow that gap a bit.

Sounds odd but £xk in the bank is earning squat ATM so an extra k and a half for 3 months is £500pm which isn't bad.

Agreed and my take on things too. A great car to own and run for a few years as depreciation gets pretty much to zero when it hits a certain point.

A lot of car for the money, undoubtedly. However, we are in a recession, in the winter, with fuel costs about to bite, so buyers are likely to be even thinner on the ground than usual. Plus interest rates are going up, so getting 2.5% on a savings account is easy enough (and better than nothing). So overall, I’d be taking an offer sooner rather than later (unless you are happy to sit on it indefinitely).

When I sold my Jag X-type on eBay a few years ago, I first had some scuffed paint on the bumpers touched up to make it look better. The first buyer (who turned out to be a dealer) rejected the car, saying, "It's been resprayed, so it might have been in an accident or there might be something dodgy underneath". Not doing that again.

Yup, all agreed. Might sit on it to the spring if it doesn't meet an agreeable price. Won't cost anything for that 3 months other than a new MOT.
