Well I tried to justify to myself to keep it but I failed! The E43 AMG Estate is here so the XJL and Cayenne will be going in response.

Listed on PH here but happy to answer any questions or offer any special SM member deals here of course.

Just lovely and such an underrated car. That’s a lot of car for the money.
I think so too and have always loved the X351. The 5.0 V8 SC engine mated to the ZF Auto suits the car really well. Underrated IMHO too. New price is about £100k so really good VFM.

No real design flaws or weak links as far as I know. No air suspension as coil springs/dampers. Only issue I had other than servicing, tyres or brakes was a water pump that showed signs of failing so just got it replaced.

I'd love to keep it as I can't see it depreciating any more but I know it just won't get used very much. I just don't do too many miles or long journeys these days.

Got the P Zeros off and put PS4S tyres on that made a big difference as expected.

That is Absolute Quality and what value for money I can't see her hanging around for long.
I think so. I've had a good look around and priced it keenly. I'm in no rush to sell so will see what goes. Great VFM for sure.

I took the E43 on a long run and it isn't anywhere near as quiet or as comfortable but the E43 as has a much sportier drivers edge to it. Also has 20" alloys with 30/35 tyres whereas the XJL has 20" alloys with 35/40 tyres. Seems to make a big difference but the XJL is tuned for comfort with a sporty edge. I think they got the balance spot on for most petrolheads who want a comfortable car.

As it is not a heavy car for its size being all aluminium bodied it is surprising effortless. One thing that is noticeable different that is hard to explain is that it doesn't seem to have much frictional loss or resistance. It glides along with barely any input from the right foot often. I get 28-30mpg on a long run and average about 24mpg on mixed driving with not that many long runs.

If it was an estate I'd be keeping it. The boot is a great size but doesn't have folding back seats and my work often means I need to carry some kit and need an estate like vehicle really.

I have the diesel version and it is equally comfortable and has a surprising turn of speed.
I would have loved the full fat version practically got the better of me.
I still remember the Top Gear episode where Clarkson raved about the V8.

It is a cracking power plant IMHO. Plenty of low down grunt with the supercharger then good mid range punch that just keeps going. A little less revvy than an F136 in the QPV of course but suits the nature of the car very well. Like most modern cars with decent power and being refined/quiet you need to keep an eye on the speedo as it surprises you at times.

Had a few enquiries but nobody come to view yet. Decided to drop the price a smidge and added an Ebay ad too:

I know it is the wrong time to sell a car so if it doesn't look as though it will sell in the next couple of weeks I'll leave it then try again next year. No point selling it for buttons as it isn't costing anything to keep it. I'm in no rush to sell and have a bottom line price I have in mind that I would sell it for that I'll stick to.

Seems pretty well priced to me compared to others for sale. Not that there is that many mind as it is a pretty rare car. Any thoughts or opinions always welcome of course.

Your eBay photos are fuzzy for me, were they low resolution when you uploaded them?

I think the lighting could be better too, whether that makes a difference or not I don’t know. Blanked out numberplates always make me think there’s something to hide.

I would completely review and amend the eBay ad - bad quality, dark photos with insufficient pictures of the bodywork/wheels/condition and none of the engine bay that I would expect.

Reading the description gave me a headache and blurred vision. Way too shouty and I’d remove the story about the exhaust, looks negative and detracts from what appears to be a decent, well-specced car.

With this sort of car which isn’t an easy sell you’ll get just one chance to entice those looking for one.

They are just on my half rubbish mobile to be honest as not got anything better at the moment. They were full resolution though. Maybe the lower light didn't help.

Only had the eBay ad up for an hour or so and had an offer already that isn't awful but a bit too low to accept. Never accept your first offer right. Will go back to them with a revised offer as I have a bottom line figure in my head I'd accept and it is below that.

Looks like a dealer so quite a strong trade offer if it is. Maybe they have a customer order for one already so know they can sell it for a decent profit straight away.

Thanks for the comments and all taken on board.

You only get 24 pics on an eBay ad but get loads on PH. Might need to get a better camera and take some more in better light.

You can have as many photos as you like on eBay if you embed them using html within your description.
