After 6 years and 50k miles, our 16 YO BMW 523i shopping runabout needed replacing. My wife who is the main driver wanted to downsize to a 5 door hatch, and following trouble free ownership of our Mito (albeit it hardly ever gets driven), she agreed to forgo the default choices of a BMW 1 series or Audi A3, in favour of an Alfa Giulietta 2.0 JTDM2!

So that brings the fleet more in balance with 2 Germans (Cayenne & Z4), 2 Italians (Giulietta & Mito) and 3 Brits (Aston, Bentley, GT40). Bit of poetic licence with the latter, that could be considered a Yank, but it is a British design.

Looked at a few reviews of the Giulietta, and it seems underrated and reliable…..time will tell!

Nothing very serious and those petrol sixes go on for ever. Just at 133k miles I’m spending more than it’s worth keeping it going. New shocks, leaky rad and my wife finds it just too big after driving very little during lockdown and losing confidence.

I bought it off an ex colleague for £2k 6 years ago at 70k miles and just sold it for £800 at the local auction. Beat that for low depreciation on a daily!

Mrs C has a Giulietta and it's a nice car. Couple of huge irritations. No clutch foot rest and the dumbest arm rest on the planet.

It's hardly refined but looks and goes acceptably

Another willy comp?
I didn’t start the thread on that basis. I have missed my Grancab ever since I sold it but can’t justify replacing it (or rather can’t justify it to my wife who has a 1 in 1 out rule these days). I was just making the point that whilst the Germans seem to have a justifiable reputation for quality, I managed to persuade her to take a risk with a left field choice of a Giulietta rather than the default BMW or Audi, and had a more balanced collection as a result.

Replacing a 16 YO BMW with an 11 YO Giulietta isn’t showing off IMO!

Nearly bought a Giulietta for exactly the same purpose/user requirement recently. Ended up with BMW i3 with which, it turns out, I am delighted.
I still think Giulietta is a good choice. But Mrs Surrey is quite petite and could not get a good view over her shoulder from the driving seat, so the Giulietta fell at the very last fence.

It's a 1981 Colt Lancer Turbo that I've had since 1995. It needs recommissioning and put back on the road. That might well start next year. It looks a
