Hi guys,

I thought i'd post in the newbie section as I have returned to maserati ownership after selling my 4200 CC nearly a year ago:tomato7:

I originally wanted a 3200 but after hearing about all of the issues I ended up with a 4200..now im back with a manual 3200 :proud: I've had it just over a week and i LOVE IT!!! Personally I think it looks better, the turbos give it an awesome personality and being a 'proper' manual I find it more fun when you are 'stepping up the tempo'

There are some immediate downsides though..the interior feels more dated and not so well put together and the clutch is HEAVY which makes it horrible in stop/start traffic. BUT on the whole im glad I bought it and already prefer it to my 4200!

Its good to be back on the forum -sooo much useful info in one places its amazing!

List of things to do:

- Noisy heater fan needs replacing (big job me thinks)
- Improve stereo
- Replace (or re-coat?) most buttons as they are worn and feel 'sticky'
- No red key....

Hi mate and welcome back, I do remember you from before.

The head unit, try and buy a Becker GP, Dem has one still at home since I sold it to him 2 years ago.

The red key is not such an issue these days, there are work arounds now.

You can rub all the rubber coating off with your finger and you can buy it in aerosols.

Noisy fan, well that's a dash out I beleive. You could remove the scuttle panel and pollen filter and clear out the leaves and lube, its worth a shot first.

You up for the Xmas party or ACE Cafe on the 8th Nov?

thanks for the warm welcome guys!!

Ace on the 8th? I think im free so i'll pop down :thumb:4

-Stereo -definitely keeping a becker ill check out the GP :) The exhaust note/turbo spool up noises keep me entertained 90% of the time just need a decent stereo set up for the 10% that im plodding along on the motorway in 6th! I actually experimented with the 4200 and got very good results and think even better is possible with the 3200 as the headunit will be a high end becker unit rather than tapping into the average sounding (blaupunkt?) unit in the 4200.

-thanks for pointing me in the direction of the spray plastic..it looks great! One newbie question though...if i spray it black won't that cover up the diagrams on the buttons? (Like the odd P button with lines coming off of it?!)

-No red key -it doesn't really bother me to be honest; the fact that the car had a engine rebuild outweighed the fact it had no red key for me. Would be interested in hearing about the workarounds as I have been trawling through pages and pages of info but no definitive answers.

-I'll try the clearing out of the scuttle panel + pollen filter with my fingers crossed:thumb: no doubt it'll be a dash out job at some point!

These are just the immediate jobs, next year its GS wheels/skirts/bumpers :omg: its frowned upon I know and im not fussed about any impact on its value -in my head it will look nice!

Glad to be back!!!

Looks lovely, welcome to the 3200 family, good choice

Horror stories that you hear tend to be with cars that have not been looked after, with good servicing it should be alright....
Cant beat it when those turbos spin.....

PHR,
Welcome back, interesting you should choose a 3200 over a 4200, your car looks stunning and of course it has the boomers..!!
Cheers

I wouldn't call it interesting, I'd say it was an obvious choice being a near future classic ;-)

thanks again for the warm welcome guys! The choice of a 3200 over 4200 is obviously a hard one but it boils down to the following (for me personally): 3200 is more exciting to look at/drive but feels like someones made it at home 4200: more refined and better put together but less exciting. I like excitement lol

Attempting the sticky buttons tomorrow, read a post about how to remove the sticky old stuff but cant find it anymore?? Bought the plastidip, tried to remove it with my finger but got terrible results...looks like a dog ate my switches! Any tips?

I think the plastic skin should peel off, try a rub across type action rather than scraping at it. If it's solid and not flaking, try a new coating over the top of existing.

Welcome back Phrozen, they get under the skin don't they:D Your car looks stunning, and I may be able to point you in the direction of a set of GS wheels when I get round to selling them! :D Regards, Miles.
