Yep Vmax is a completely legal event, run by an ex Maserati QP owner (craig) completely safe providing you stick to the simple straight forward rules , and are not **** bent on racing as its frowned upon there , more of a personal challenge , and the good thing is you dont have to power take off your clutch , if its just top speed your interested in , they time 1/4 mile and mile if you want and you can drag start other cars if you want to , but thats not for me , more interested in the overall top speed ive done 165mph would dearly love to top that if i could , me mate Bazza has (havent you Bazza) hehehehehe

regards loz
Loz, you Grass!!! i will be up for the Vmax stint.
i got caught on a NON motorway last year 110mph, got a 28 day ban £750 fine with no representation but good news was that i got licence back with all previous points gone (happy day's)
The priemium on the insurance moved up by £80, not as bad as i expected. Down side is that they work out the percentage of the amount of speed over the top of the limit you were doing which they make sound horrific in court.
Its a worring time Mark but keep chin up mate.

I will have you know that I use an electric strummer which removes ear hair..............I have often wondered how the hair on your head gets thin and your eyebrows and the hair in your ears grows at the rate of knots as you get older..........one of life's mysteries

2 fast

My condolences t you......the unmarked BMW is known to locals and it patrols favourite fast roads regularly. A friend had "exceeding the speed limit" from a nice nonjobsworth plod and had a fixed penalty rather than the more severe declaration of the actual speed - he was going too fast but in a "safe" way. Best of luck to you.

Mark I know the road well, sitting duck territory for the Beemer pilots unfortunately.

However - if the slip says "exceeding the speed limit" wait and see what the summons says. I was done a while ago blatting up the M6 at 140 with a jam sandwich behind me, obscured by spray. He took 8 miles to catch me and followed me for 12..... before I backed off to cool the turbo down and he appeared in my mirrors as the spray dissipated.

A grown up conversation ensued, and I was done for 99 mph. And when the NOIP came it said 89 mph on it, £60 and three points!

On another note I was also done by a Gatso at 103mph at 1 am on the M25, 6 points and £450, I reckon a fortnight ban would have been preferable to 5 years of explaing my points tally to insurers and paying the premiums.... if you can be car less for a bit, a ban might be a cheaper option.

Keep us posted....

Its the same thing as getting older - going to bed - everything works - get up - something has broken

Actually you are better off with the points. If you get a short ban you need to declare it to your insurers and they take a very dim view. Had a friend who was looking at 6 pts or a short ban and after a bit of research found that the 6 points was far better. If you go to a site like confused.com and plug through your details you can see easily that a ban is bad news. It seems a lot of insurers won't quote if you've had a short ban. So many people have totted up 6pts (2x3) driving at 38 in a 30 that at this time you don't stand out as a bad boy, however a short ban is still only reserved for those who've been really naughty!

you dont want to be banned, some will say its better as your license comes back clean but insurers dont like that

6 points and a fine is the usual.....

DVLA know, and insurers get that information in the case of a claim, so you would be stuffed.

insurers also share info as well - I had forgotten about a claim made 4 years ago on my wifes insurance, different car, her policy, I was a named driver, they added a %age to my insurance on a motorbike that she cant ride!

If your license is clean, how will an insurer ever find out you were banned?

If you look carefully they ask about "motoring offences" in the proposal rather than how many points you have. eg Speeding on the Motorway SP50, they then ask how many points /ban length and fines for each offence. If you had 6 points your insurance would be a lot cheaper than having a short ban. Your paper part of the license would note the ban, its not just for points.

you are right. I have been seeking new car insurance. The only thing they want to know is what the offence was classified as. My son has an SP60 which simply means speeding on a motorway. It does not say whether you were doing 80mph, 90 mph or whatever. In my son's case he was clocked at 102mph and got 6 points. Perhaps it is the quantity of points that tells how much over the limit you were.

Thanks to you all for your kind words; and my apologies to Tess when I addressed my thread to 'chaps'. I will refine my introductions in future.
I have to accept the medicine being dealt for my sins.
What do I do now I can't hear that glorious V8 growl any more.
This car is an exceptional beast and we are in the best of motor cars.

I have decided to run with me representing myself and being contrite and honest - it's the only thing I can do.
If I try and be clever it's going to come back and bite my backside.
The two policemen were exceptionally civil and were even interested in the car. We dealt with one another in the most polite and grown-up fashion; which is how I intend to conduct myself in court.

I am most grateful to you for your thoughts and advice.
Will keep you posted.

thats ok mark i forgive you and if you want anyone to look after your baby for a while im the girl to do it....seriously tho i hope it doesnt end in a ban for you x

Mark if you get a ban it may only be for a few months. I have heard that in the event of a ban onecan still drive a GWizz which is classified as a quad bike and not a car. They are not the ideal transport but more than adequate for local journeys. Lets be positive though and hope that with a good reason for not being banned, they just give you say 6 or even 9 points and a fine........that would be a result

Here is the official breakdown of points vs speed over limit.
