I always thought that you got the ban and the points.

When i got banned in 94 doing 112 on the M5 i was banned for 14 days and fined £600 at Stroud magistrates court.
It was hand written on my licence as a suspension but no points and even then you were told quite clearly that it was antisocial.

Hi Mark,

so if its speeding and not on the motorway then the max fine is £1500. If it your first offence and you plead guilty in the first instance then you're already down to £500 before you even started. If you get points the max you'll get is 6. It seems thesedays with all the speed cameras that 6 points isn't a massive amount and most insurance companies will still look at you.

You can download the sentencing guidelines here in pdf. It covers all motoring crimes so makes a good read.

http://www.sentencingcouncil.org.uk/...__2__3_web.pdf

Speeding is on page 131 with a full breakdown of reasons/factors for the judges to consider. You can use this info if to help with a statement of mitigation. eg dry, good visibility etc. As regards mitigation, you need to say how others will be affected, eg relatives need you for transport etc.

Hope this helps

Simon, again my thanks to you and everyone else for keeping my spirits up.
For now, I'm just carrying on with 'business as usual and will take it as it comes.
First reactions for the future of the car may have been a bit precipitous; would hate to lose my Italian mistress, she keeps me sane and like any hot Italian, is an expensive preoccupation.
For now, she is being a good girl and watching the speed limits carefully.
Is this what Sr. Silvio Berlusconi manages to get so wrong? He should channel his wayward urges into Italian V8s!

That's the spirit Mark!

Let's wait and see what happens but life goes on.
It's the waiting to get things over with that is the difficult bit as I know personally from previous experience. However, things fall into perspective after a while and hopefully thoughts of getting rid which are natural will pass.

Drive carefully and keep your chin up!

All on here are hoping for the best for you.

Cheers
