Our (now Scarlan's) AC is red, always draws compliments, and no one has ever compared it to a Ferrari (at least not within earshot). I think the shade makes a difference as an AC's Rosso Mondiale is a little darker than Ferrari's Rosso Corsa and I think it works nicely.

Lewis, what do you think of the Targa roof on the Porker? Do you think it affects the handling over the coupe and/or does it make any noises? Always been curious about them but never driven one..

Really good, an engineering work of art! Seals well though there is a lot of wind noise, but no creaks or rattles. Realistically there has to be some structural loss of rigidity compared to the coupe, though some claim the targa bar is structural - but I don't think so. Keeps close to the lines of the coupe, that lovely rear window and not quite as... hairdresser as the cabriolet :)

I got mine for silly money from a guy who was getting divorced - £8k!! Worth £12k private easily and £15k+ at a dealer all day. They're actually going up in value now, they have the modern(ish) performance and reliability of the 993 with the looks of the 3.2 and earlier cars. Targa is the least loved, cabrios and coupes fetch more. Never understood why, it was always the Targa I wanted if any as it does the job of both! Such a lightweight little car, 285bhp and sounds amazing... every time you put your foot down it's like being in a Classic Le Mans race! I reckon £15k would get you a mint manual coupe with 80-90k miles if you were in the right place/right time. There are only a few cars on 911uk, probably tons on Pistonheads. I have honestly never had a car tha gets so much positive attention - it looks like a Beetle really and the narrowbody C2 is as non-threatening as a sports car gets. Hippies love it!!

Long term, the Esprit and 964 might become a 360 Spyder... she doesn't know that yet though...

Loved your AC phil......

I love your AC too Phil.
I took some nice shots by the beach today but will not be able to upload them until tomorrow.
Hopefully they will convince all that red does look good.
Personally I think the lines on a Maserati differ so much from a Ferrari that only someone with a Labrador would get confused.

I think the problem is that Maserati was placed within the Fiat empire to be an entry level model for the Ferraris, and that people buying them would eventually trade up. Painting them red gives the impression their owners wanted the Ferrari connection before actually getting a Ferrari. I got that impression when I was looking for mine as three or four dealers, when asked the best colour for a spyder, said "any colour really, apart from red". It may indicate they have had problems shifting them in the past.

Nice fleet! Would have 964 if I was getting into vintage pork today.
We already have tthe previous model (3.2 Carrerra), which I hated because it was a full convertible. Of course it is part of the family now and will never leave.
I still do love the coupe, but for me an occasional "sunday car" must now be a soft top. We get so few genuine sunny days in UK, that driving roof down makes it feel sunny. By comparison older 911s feel a it dark, cramped a bit smelly. Horses for courses I suppose.

....for me they are 2 entirely different breeds.......sure Maserati are part of a stable of Italian cars, but I betcha very very few FIAT buyer even know Maserati exist, and its certainly not a true stepping stone on your way to a Prancing Horse!

Agree with Frank..Never seen them as a step to Ferrari as they are just totally different cars in performance and character.......

Well Phil & I are biased when it comes to No. 13, but we think it looks good in red.
After its long trip to the antipodes it still looks great, although I don't think these two photographs do it justice.
Even with the polarising filter there was too much sunshine (sorry to rub it in).
