How many Grand Tour in their GT

I just watched the top gear test of the latest V12 super GT cars from Ferrari and Aston
(quite a good watch but not the focus of this post).

The thing that struck me was at the beginning he talks about how many 2018-2019 previous versions of these cars are for sale at mega low mileages. Which means very few people actually take their GT type cars on long trips, say across Europe. For me my GT was bought with those trips in mind and I’ve hit 3 in 3 (3 big euro trips in 3 years of ownership) and managed similar in my previous Granturismo.

To me I feel much more appreciation and love for the car during and after a big trip. I can image the same if I used a GT for a regular big commute / daily (ie put some miles on it).

But it seems most don’t want miles on their cars and many of us (me included)l frown on high mileage when it comes to buying used for obvious reasons with Maserati due to how they wear their miles (they need to be carefully maintained if well used). I just think many are missing out not using these things as intended but curious about the views of others.

Me neither, 40k on my first 3200 in 7 years, 10k on my second 3200 in 2 years and 1k on the QP in 2 and a bit weeks, it's pointless not doing the miles in them imo, they were put on this earth to do one thing, and as beautiful as they are, that was not to sit and look at them once in a while. I'll take a well used high miler thats a well maintained example over a garage queen every day of the week, everyone gets all exited over a mega low miler but I find that stance quite sad really. The clue is in the name...

Admittedly I’m only doing 4-5k per year and 2k of that is a summer euro trip. But the low miles are due to circumstance not choice

The grand tour is so much less of a thing. I'm doing about 12k a year in my Ghibli but will happily say, due to the craziness that is Sports Maserati, in the Autumn of 2014 we did a *proper* GT in my 4200 :)

And it was ******* ace!

Every year we drive across Europe in our QP V. I am looking to perhaps change the car but the issue with most GTs is a lack of boot space. The new GranTurismo is ok at 360L plus the back seats, the F12 works but the DB12 and Roma just don’t have enough capacity for a fortnight abroad…and nor does the 12 ciilindri…..

The FF/GTC4 Lusso do all of it - but you’ve already had one I guess. For me there is no Grand Touring, there is just less opportunity for that here in a GT. Grand touring happens in the Defender so the Italians are Sunday road trip cars and recently club drives.

Must admit love long tours, the children are now getting to the age where we can get back to do them as they don't want to come with us although the youngest wants to do Le Mans so might have to squeeze one more of those in

Couldn't take the Spyder on our 3 week tour of North Spain/Portugal this autumn because I was close to my 9000mile pa annual limit - took the RS3 instead and found having so much space made it difficult to find things as they were thrown in - packing organisation is top priority with Roary's boot space

Two 6 foot 2 blokes looking similar did nearly 4,000 kilometers in a Lancia Fulvia in a week and I put together my toolkit and some spares just in case but weren't needed where as the socks and pants were ;)

Also attempted the NC500 in May but it was human failing rather than mechanical that aborted that trip unfortunately.

The FF is capable and the boot is practical at 400 litres but as you say….been there and the fuel bill is phenomenal!

i have done many long tours in my 3200 and enjoyed them all even the ones where the car was moody (it's a 3200 thing). Been round Highlands, England and twice arcoss Europe and through the alps 4 or 5 times, its some of the best times i have ever had, and the car added a special layer to it, highly recmmend.

One of the most Fun trips we did was the whole of New Zealand in a Mini Cooper 1275 5,500 kilometers in 2017 just me and Ms French on a Charity Rally.
It was so good we did the trip again in 2018 taking her Mum and an Aunt in another English built car Range Rover Vogue to show them the whole Country.

I’ll be doing my first Euro trip in the 4200 to Le Mans Classic next year with Barcelona (used to live there and drive it regularly), Zurich (lived there aswell and not been back in 15 years) and then Italy over the next 18 months. Not a GT but i also fancy a jaunt to Le Touquet Jan/Feb next year..

The Granturismo is my daily but I do take it to our house in France at least twice a year, but also to Holland and Denmark regularly (it loves to stretch its legs on the autobahn)
I do roughly 5000-7000 miles annually in it.
The 360 Modena also gets driven, and usually one or two euro trips a year. It is now on 193,000 km, all done by me so it is definitely not a garage queen.
