Hmmm. Are they supposed to go on fire?

I mean have you smelt burning rubber recently? It utterly stinks. I'm inclined to think it's most likely oil simply because unless your tyres are on fire there's not actually that much rubber to burn......

I agree. Rubber was the first thing that came to mind, smell was pretty acrid but I think burning oil fits the bill better.

Yup. Don't mind admitting. This is my first exotic and I'm learning fast.. And, to be fair, loving the experience. :)
I bought my first without a ppi, as have many others. but as you bought from a dealer you have a fair amount of protection anyway, and the fact that the fault has shown itself so early may well be disappointing, but could also be a blessing.

No criticism. Sometimes it pays off sometimes it doesn’t but as Scaf says back to dealer or get them to pay for fix. Cam cover leak doesnt just happen, it is also not fit for purpose as you cannot drive it and could go up in smoke……

First thing I would do is have a good look around from the top, see if you can see more oil and the path it is taking. If it is a bit dirty give it a clean and then short drive and check again. If you can’t see oil on the heads it might be coming from somewhere else.

If it is the gaskets, and it most likely is, they are about £40 each and around 3 hours of swearing.
Had a good look today. Top looks very clean, assume the cam covers are the red parts? It did just have an oil change so wondering if it could have been a spill. Took it for a drive and seems fine now. If there's a leak this should happen again?

Could it still make sense if the oil change was about 200 miles ago and I only just noticed? Are there places for oil to pool before dripping onto the catalyst?

We have seen a few alternators go up and when I say up I mean catch fire.

It would be more engine/bonnet area but worth checking as if it goes you will be sweeping your car up with a dustpan and brush.

I reckon probably cam cover gasket. Can be almost impossible to see from the top.

The few I've seen could only be seen from underneath and looking up. It drips off the rear corner of the cam cover down onto the top of the Cat.
And the fact you can see oil on your cat in that picture, would make me definitely look there first.

Thank you everyone for your help. Really appreciate it. Will monitor it for a the next few days as the dealer is a couple of hours away from me. It's also booked into SI week after next for a health check so will obviously mention it.

Well, I will look out for your car and give it a careful look over. It should be pretty obvious what has failed

Yes my cam cover gaskets leak also, they all do ... even the Ferrari F430's.

If and when they get changed, make sure some silicone is used to, that might give you a bit more time before it happens again.
