Hi everyone, new to Maserati (potentially)

Hi everyone, looked in on forum on and off for years. We don’t actually own a Maserati as yet. However, had a massive love affair with them for most of my life, as an 8 year old living in a town with a good healthy Italian community ……. And the cars to go with it!!! Also big fan of Alfas and we have owned a number of them with gear delight - 33 gold cloverleaf, 156 2.4jtds, 159 2.4jtds - loved them!! We have been trying to get into an Alfa again, however, dealerships in central Scotland are …. I’ll be polite here, pants! Still waiting for a call back from 4 years ago. We tried again to contact them and arrange test drive if Stelvio QV …. Three weeks ago, still waiting!

So ….. what’s this post about and why Maserati. Well to be honest, didn’t think we would be able to afford one and hubby only 99.9% sure (mechanic to trade, AA patrol) so tends to use his napper more than his heart ‍♀️. We’ve been going through all models to see what will best suit us. Personal ‘sensible’ models we’re currently looking at are Levante and Ghibli. Looked at Grecale, but I would have to have a Trofeo and would be just too expensive, for reasons noted below. So looking at a nearly new Modena or Modena S (Levante) and Modena for Ghibli. However, got a wee question for those having the patience to read this essay !! Having read up and checked out YouTube videos, at length, there doesn’t appear to be much difference between Modena or Trofeo ? Anyone able to advise of their experiences ?

Now finances …..We made a knee jerk decision to buy a new RS5 Vorsprung at the end of last year, car in Audi showroom and hubby fell in love, me???? Not so much. Now trying to see if we can get out of RS5, and limit financial damage as much as possible. May not be possible, which is totally understandable, although not going to be silly here and may have to start looking at our first Maserati in 12 months time. However, now that I’m that close to getting one (although has to be the right one) it’s eating away at my heart.

Well done if you’ve got this far. Any advice would be greatly appreciated from people who have the models discussed. I will keep reading forum, as I’ve always done, but now a fully registered member

Hi SE_123

We seen these also on Autotrader, have been in discussions with most Maserati dealers throughout UK. Either special edition models (F Tributo) or Trofeo’s - none of which are in our price range. Gray Paul (Nottingham) have sourced and gave us a brilliant deal on Grecale Trofeo, so made the decision to go with it. Thanks though for forwarding Levante’s

apologies, your right. Cars we were looking at was either a Ghibli or Levante - preferably Levante. Hubby not too keen on quattroporte, no idea why . However, hitting our heads off a brick wall trying to get into either a ‘right’ Ghibli or Levante, and patience wearing thin as we had to move on RS5. Grecale deal came out of nowhere and with further investigation (YouTube videos, car mag reviews) decided it would be the best way forward. Sooooo excited about getting into my first Maserati, would’ve preferred a classic model but just not got the lifestyle for one at the moment, roll on retirement!!!! Can’t wait also to attend Scottish Italian Car Day in May to show off our boy!!

Surprised you did not get on with the RS5 - great engine and in Vorsprung spec IIRC it comes with the adaptive dampers that most don't have. The Hopetoun gig is a good one but go early as I turned up half way through last year in my GranTurismo and most Masers had already gone. You might have to start up the engine a few times as its technology sounds really interesting.

Thanks for your advice, will do. RS5 is vorsprung edition. Great car, not my cup of tea and had some issues with driver safety warning lights. It’s been to Audi and nothing wrong apparently. We’ve had Audis in the past, always had issues of some sort, whether this be mechanical or poor build. Hubby wanted a RS5 and we both believed a high end car like that we wouldn’t have issues. Whilst we’re not perfectionists, after all had Alfas in the past and loved all their ‘personalities’ and imperfections. I just don’t like the car I’m afraid, great engine and spec, I love driving - hardly have a drink and we don’t smoke, my only ‘sin’ is enjoying driving and love of Italian cars ‍♀️. I would never see myself taking the RS out for a ‘blast’

So …….. we’ve done a deal with Maserati Nottingham for a new Grecale Trofeo - one that had been ordered in as a demo. Great deal, and good offer for RS5. Chances are will be here before the end of the month. Not too sure about people’s opinions of Grecale (new model etc,) although looking forward to nettuno engine, which was the selling point for us.

I’m not aware that anyone on here has a Grecale so I think a lot will be interested in your feedback in what it’s like. Oh and pictures when you get it please.
