Help; identify a film....

This is driving me mad. As I'm living (nominally) in a French-speaking country, I thought I try and seek some of the old French film I used to watch on TV, always a film buff and a bit arty-farty.

There was this one, it was a guy, living in what I assumed was a Parisienne banlieu, near to a Metro station, and the guy could see the entrance/exit from his flat, or it was very close and connected in the story in someway. The Metro station (which was underground) was significant in the story.

Black and white, 50's, 60's, 70's perhaps 80's but no later.

Not much to go on but any ideas arty-farty types?

You don’t identify french films with reference to railway stations, you identify them from the copious amounts of sex. If not, you are watching the wrong ones and are in danger of being classified as a nutless geek.

The best film set in France is Ronin, but no doubt Benny will say Henry V

A worthy guess but I’ll go with The Longest Day. While it wasn’t us beating the CESMs it gave them a debt they will never be able to repay, which will irk them even more than losing to us yet again.

The Red Balloon is such a lovely film, quite short, no (or hardly any) dialogue but the cinematography is stunning.

Anyone know this film/scene? French women - gotta' love 'em
(Safe for work)

Edit: The simply sublime Sandrine Bonnaire in Monsieur Hire. An odd tale.
Disturbing and somewhat creepy at times. Touching too though.
