Help - how do I remove the plastic trim on centre console? Need it for carbon fibre dipping

Hi guys,

I already have carbon fibre around the 1 and R button, but the the centre console itself is just plastic. Always loved the carbon fibre console on Matt’s Strad!

I have managed to remove the centre console, but I am stuck - can’t figure out how to separate the ashtray from the plastic trim, and can’t figure out how to remove the parking brake mechanism as well.

The plastic pieces seem to be glued onto the centre console plastic trim ?

how do I get the trim separated from everything else so that I could have it carbon dipped (unless Matt wants to sell me his real carbon fibre one).

On my QP5 I think my Parking brake switch was wrapped in cloth tape which made it a very snug fit, once you remove the screw it should rotate back towards the rear of the car and drop out the bottom

My total expertise in this is successfully rubbing the sticky controls of my standing desk (not a euphemism) with Johnsons' cleansing wipes. And 'dipping' my RayBans (also NAE).

Its just where its been screwed to it for years (sticktion), if all the screws are our, start easing it. You have to manipulate the ash tray cover a bit to get it out.

the ashtray on my centre console is ‘bonded’ to the centre console trim using some sort of heat treatment, it is very securely bonded to the plastic. I tried using plastic pry tool and could not separate them, and the carbon fibre look dipping would properly result in lots of rattling noise if I forced it.

Why didn’t maserati simply made them in carbon fibre ? Such a small piece as well.

Anyway, I have decided to use masking tape instead, hopefully would turn out fine.

Haha, mine is the reverse of yours - surround of 1 and R in carbon, and plastic in centre console. This means that you must be checking eBay regularly to see if you could get the last missing piece to complete yours. Do these 2 pieces both come in carbon?

Anyway, I did this to mine because I could not separate the pieces …
