Lovely Andy,

I have now got a job as a Photographer for Supercardriver.com, i am going to Oulton Park on 25th April for the British GT Championship, meeting up with a guy off Supercar Driver and he has a Laser Blue MK 1 Exige, cant wait to see what they are all about, doing a photoshoot of it.

Just FAB Andy...did you have any mods on yours?

Standard Enzo ... To be honest it was a track car and as such didn't need anything added ... It was a bit of an animal ....

Adam, a job as a photgrapher .. Well done you.. Start of something big maybe.

I know yeah, i am a lucky boy, really lucky to be part of Supercar Driver, they have really good meets with the best supercars. Looking forward to photographing the Exige Mk1, not seen one for years.

Currently got my eye on a new camera as well on Ebay.

Nice one Adam. (Sorry, we've not really 'met' before I know...) I've done some work as a photographer myself and know just how competitive it is. With every Tom, Dick and Harry wielding pro-level DSLR's these days, it can be hard to make yourself seen as serious and good enough to stand out from the throng, so hats off to you for landing a staff gig.

Thanks Andrew.

I am surprised i got offered it to be honest, i dont own an SLR yet, looking at a Nikon D40 at the moment on Ebay, the administrator of super car driver contacted me through pistonheads and said, i really like your pictures, notice you post on pistonheads quite a bit and you are enthusiastic and are based in the north west, fancy being a photographer for super car driver??? So i basically bit his hand off.

There is a lot of competition yes, but there are so many people out there will all the gear but no idea.

They approached you, very classy!

Cameras come and go.... your biggest long term investment will be in glass, so choose your system based on who makes the best lenses for your purposes, even if you think you can't afford it yet (you don't go buying everything at once anyway, more likely you'll build up over time). Look at renting as a way to try before you buy. Unless the mag has has an equipment pool or a preference, but even then think long-term and trust your own judgement.

Finally, make sure you know your kit inside out before you need to use it on a job, and learn about lighting (as in flashes) and in particular off-camera lighting as soon as you can. It's tricky but will soon have you streets ahead of the others in creating images that really stand out from those of your colleagues.

Sorry if this is teaching you to sucks eggs... on the other hand feel free to PM me if you'd like more info on anything. Happy to help in any way I can.

Just to supplement Andrew's comments above, we live in a digital age, so although camera's do come and go, don't necessarily think your lenses are transferable, cos they ain't. My advise for what little it's worth...... start with the correct lens system that will grow with you (eyes wide open on that one as many are optimized to particular sensor sizes) and find a digital camera platform that'll grow with it.

Looks fantastic, bet it went like a dream :D

It did Enzo .... But not the easy car to drive ... It was highly strunge.....You had to warm it up ..... If you put your foot down before it was warm it would kangaroo down the road ..... 190bhp from the 1.8 K series was about its limit. You had to learn how to drive it smooth and fast .... Love that in a car...Learning its character.

Thanks for the tips and advice Andy i will probably buy a book on the camera i am interested in, just been to a camera shop near me, they have a used but in great condition canon eos 350d, they had a nikon d40 and d50 in and i prefferred the canon, will most probably go back on Monday and get it, it is up for £230.

Oh by the way, supercar driver is a supercar club not a magazine.
