New to forum, but have been a keen follower for a while. I am looking to buy either a Gransport or a 4200 Spyder cc. Still not totally decided although i am edging towards the Sypder as I can get a much newer, lower millage example within much budget.

Just a thread to introduce myself, although not blessed with immense knowledge on these cars i hope I can add to the forum in my own way. :f2:

Hi Andy and welcome to the forum. The GranSport is about as good as it gets and they are ultra reliable. The Spyder is a nice little car but does suffer very badly from scuttle shake. My advice is to drive both before making a decision. OK the Spyder will cost alot less than a GS, but the GS resell prices are holding rock solid at the moment, due to the fact that you get an awful lot of car for your money.

I have had my GS 2 years now, and it is worth pretty much the same as when I bought it, and there is good reason for that.

A very warm welcome to the forum Andy, the GS and Spyder, both very nice cars, i would edge towards the GS as it is a personal favourite of mine but both are very nice cars.

2 alfa's eh? You will fit in no problem. The 75 and 155, 2 of my fave Alfa's , especially the 75 as it has the v6, if you get time could you post some pictures of your Alfa's? I would like an Alfa project one day when i am old enough and have the funds, toying with idea of a 75 or 155 DTM replica.

Hi Andy, Welcome to the forum and good look with your search. Any queries, just ask and the responses won't be long in coming.

Though it's still a little early in the year, we have regular meets, so if you keep an eye on the events section and can make it along to one of our gatherings, I'm sure you'll gather plenty of helpful advice.

Cheers, Miles.

Well most have done the intro bit, so another warm welcome Andy , as Matt said Gs is pretty much a sorted car now , all the previous 4200 foibles have been ironed out so yes apart from regular servicing its reliable as anything out there and a **** site more user friendly on a daily basis for a supercar that is

Spyder , great bit of kit and completely different from any other convertible out there for the money ,early ones prone to slight scuttle shake , but on the later GS ones it has been reduced by various bracings, prices seem to hold pretty good for spyders taking into account the normal winter summer thing ,

Any questions feel free to ask , we have around 7/8 spyder owners so im sure you'll have plenty of answers when you start

Enjoy reading through the site , plenty of helpful info tech wise our very own pictoral how to guides will help you keep costs right down if your that way inclined and handy with a spanner

Takecare look forward to hearing from you

regards loz

wow..thanks for the welcome guys, a very warm reception :)

Cant wait to get behind the wheel of my first Maserati and very glad to have found this forum to make that experience every bit the dream i hope it will be and not the nightmare cliche supercar ownership you hear of so much.

I have driven a couple of GS's and I was absolutely blown away by them both. "Sport mode" wow what a noise what a car!!. Yet to drive the Spyder, but i am drawn to the soft top option. god knows why...i think its some crazy vision that one day i can drive down to italy top down cruising around the mountain roads and the lakes looking very cool!!!! :)

Pretty useless in this country however, so who knows. I cant afford the GS spyder definutly out of my budget at the moment, so it is down to these two models to choose from. Im going to look at the 2002 Spyder at alfanet in the next few weeks so will hopefully get a chance to drive and see the difference in the cars.

Alfa wise I absolutly love them. ive had a couple 155's including the V6 and Q4 models however i think the best setup version is the 2.0 16v. Such a great car and so cheap to find a good one and run it. The 75 is a glorious car, fitted with the later 3.0v6 engine that has been claimed by some to be the best engine ever made..Not sure about it myself, a bold claim!!! but what i can say is the noise it makes is amazing. When i start that car up every time i sit in the seat and put the key in the ignition, the hairs on my neck rise and i get a feeling of excitment and anticipation that i havent had with any other car. Amazing.!

I would definutly recommend driving one and experiencing them. I have had it about a year now and although its a solid road car im now starting a full back to chassis restoration and rebuild to a fast road/track day car. I will post some pics up as soon as I can get some, although she is tucked away at my dads for the winter at the moment.

Thanks again
Andy

Wow that is 10k less than id seen them for before. Tech cloth doesnt bother me, actually really like it. With out a change of other plans in my life however its still 10k out of my budget though. I think these are definutly off my list at the moment.

Thanks for the link all the same

I quite like the tech cloth, especially in those colours, people dont buy it as it is poor on re sale, it is a shame a GS Spyder is out of your budget, i dont think there is a GS Spyder owned by anyone on here. I think it will be a good 18 months before we see most GS Spyder's sub 30K.

i wouldn't wait a year, you only live once and you have to make the most of it, if you really really want something and you are in a position to buy it then you should get it.

And also the bad thing with a GS Spyder is that you can not pick and choose as much as you can with a GS Coupe, GS Spyder's dont come for sale often so if you want one in a particular colour, you could be playing the waiting game for a while.
