Has Maserati got Jaguar customers in its sights?

Market forces Frank. I remember the outrage on TopGear when Jag went diesel, but now a diesel Jag seems perfectly normal. Porsche has since gone that way and Maserati may have to in order to survive and then onto hybrids and maybe even hydrogen cells. The only thing for certain is; you have to go with the market flow whichever direction that takes.

Nor me Frank. I certainly wouldn't buy a diesel Maser either but maybe lots would. Time will tell.

Whilst theres a pragmatic part of me realising the importance of spreading your range, covering all options....it all feels very tacky...grubby to have to dilute/tarnish the supercar image....by sticking a diesel into the range..pity.....

It will happen, esp as they are not top dogs in italy, ferrari and lambo will never have diesel engines.....

You can't say never Dem. BMW M Power are starting to introduce diesel M Power cars like the M 550 and they said they never would. It may become a competitive market as Top Marques play "who can p!ss highest up the wall" with power outputs and performance.

Think I read it is a Chrysler unit that is being worked on by Ferrari..Completely stripped and given a 'Maserati touch'..........Ummmmm....All the new engines are being developed by Ferrari.....The engine in the new QP will be the next Ferrari V8 so tey so.......Bigger tune though...

I'm keeping my 07 QP Sport GT duoselect because the purity stopped there.

Plus they now boast the engine has moved forward to over the front axle giving near 50/50 balance, as if that's good. Maserati has to be obviously different not just promo words saying they are different.

Agree with Simon the rear end is a nondescript crib of blandness and to suggest the frront end is not Kia/Hyundi ish with a touch of volvo thrown in to **** it up completely then a look around any carpark will prove it.

By the way I heard a faint rumour that the Ghibli will have the 3.8 twin turbo V8 with 540bhp and a twin clutch box transaxle set up on Bilstiens with a possible 2 door Cup version later. Oh yes please...............................

It will ake of where the QP has left and gone on up a scale.....The Ghibli is said to be the size of the current QP...The new QP is massive by all accounts....

I know I may be stoned by all but I have always seen Maserati as Italy's Jaguar.

Yes they may use Ferrari tech at times, but Jag and Aston did/do with their cars as do most other car co's

At the end of the day it is a company there to make money for its share holders.

They're talking nonsense. the whole point of the duoselect QP was for perfect balance, the gearbox between the rear axles and the engine behind the front wheels. This was diluted wth the ZF QP as the gearbox was up front but the new model sounds like an Audi with the engine hanged out of the front of the radiator.

Lot's of manufacturers share parts now, as most parts are not actually made by the car manufacturer, they just buy them to install in the car they have designed. True some manufacturers specify the type of thing they want to buy, but then that gives other car manufacturers the chance to use either the same part, or one with very slight differences. To say that one car is individual therefore is not actually true, unless you are talking about the actual design. Even bits with Maserati on them are more than likely outsourced and badged..!!

Its always ironic when BMWophiles etc critise the electrics in Italian cars when the parts are made by Bosch.

Magnetti Morelli had a big hand in some of the electrics on Italians, but Bosch have become one of the main suppliers. I suppose if you say that the car manufacturer makes 10% of the car themselves, you could be right, or a bit optimistic..??
