Check the resistor under the rad. They corrode and do exactly that. Simple fix. Alfa GT part is the same

Hi

GS rad fan seems to be on constantly - or certainly is on startup cold.

Someone said it could be battery related/reset & I do have battery drain issues (so will see if a full charge changes that)

But if it is the engine temp sensor - where do I access it & is it possible to test or just better to replace anyway

presume its this part no180137 ?

Thanks for any info
Is your temp gauge showing anything at all ?

It could be the fan resistor which is an alfa part for the 147/156/166.

Thanks both.

Yes temp gauge definitely working - does this suggest that the resistor is OK? or shall I just swap out as a starting point?

Easy to access?

Temp gauge working is more indicative of the resistor being the issue. Lie on your back and you can do it without even a jack. (From memory on a 4200 at least)

Certainly where I would start

As Catman said if your temp gauge is working then it indicates the resistor is probably the issue.

Your temp gauge at the moment when the car is warmed up probably gets up to 70 /80 degrees but not much higher as the fan is always running at full tilt.

Pretty easy to access on the 4200 and GS.

Hi - swapped out the resistor & the thermostat (was staying around 75c) & fan was on on cold start up. Shall i replace the engine temp sensor now or is there something else I should look at ?

Is it on right away or does it start shortly after start up? I assume the air conditioning is switched off?
