Hi All,

Any ideas? The key fob battery died, I have replaced the battery but now the key won't open the car remotely? (Opens door with the key & starts car ok).

I'm assuming there is some reprogramming sequence I need to do?

Thanks.

From memory, you need to start the car with it and it sorts its sh!t out after that, But I could be wrong.

Hmmm, three things spring to mind (well maybe four)

1) 'New' battery is actually dead
2) Battery is in upside down
3)Microswitch has broken at the same time
4) You need to re-sync the key (stand next to the car and double click the un-lock button. Then see if it works)

Never one to counter the fine Senor Crud, but I don't think starting will have an bearing on this issue.

Good luck

Ahh.. I now see that in the first post the OP comments that the car starts just fine.

I'll defer to the Man of Cats on this topic.

Thanks both, none of this worked unfortunately....

I have:

Changed the battery (again) although admitedly from the same pack).
Double clicked the open button with car unlocked and locked.
Started the car with dead fob key.

When you say microswitch Catman I assume you mean the buttons on the fob? If so I can't see its that as the key worked fine three weeks again and has sat untouched in a drawer.

I could swap the battery's around from the working fob but I'm worried that one would stop working as well!

A fair concern at this point. If *none* of the buttons works I'm still suspicious of the battery(ies) either their polarity, or you've got a duff pack. Given there are three buttons on there, the odds of them all failing at the same time are slim.....

I'll try another battery. How on earth can a key fob go out of sync after a couple of weeks FFS....

Cheers Catman.

Funnily enough I did actually test the batteries and they are all fine..

I'd suggest still
1) Battery duff or wrong way round
2) Power terminals not connecting in the fob
3) Some other physical issue. (Assuming *none* of the buttons work)

Hi all. This is probably a stupid question but how do you open the GT key? I've taken the small screw out but the clam refuses to open, despite me trying to prise it open with various screwdrivers. Is it just brute force or is there a knack?

Did you unscrew and take out the battery holder too ?

Have you taken the panel with the logo on off. There's a screw under there. Normally you need to heat it. Either a very low oven or sometimes a very hot hairdryer to soften the glue.

CatmanV2. Thanks for the advice - I hadn't realised that there was an additional screw under there. I've just ordered a spare key fob case from eBay with a view to replicating in with a nice CNC version. The standard plastic key fob is really naff for such a quality vehicle.

Not sure of the costs yet but it won't be much. Will get it done and post some pics in a few weeks.

I'm second in the queue *but* the ebay shell will (almost certainly) not be a the same as the original.

Billet aluminium? Heavy and I guess would block the RF?

Was thinking billet aluminium or titanium but I hadn't considered the RF issue - and it would be an issue. How about carbon fibre?
