Granturismo or Ghibli ?

After a break of 7 yrs it’s time to rejoin the fold of Maserati ownership with a budget of £20-£21k. The gap between the Ghibli & the Granturismo has closed , so apologies if this subject has been already covered, however advice on the choice would be appreciated. Cheers.

Not sure I see the Ghibli and the GT as anywhere near being similar?

Help us out with your needs? If that V8 soundtrack is desired, your decision is made. Likewise if you want 4 doors.

If you are just looking to own the badge, my head would say Ghibli (newer, lower bills etc.) but then my heart would always draw me to the looks and sounds of the GT.

A Ghibli at that price point would be a diesel... and long term we know what is happening to that fuel source. Not that they are not a decent car, but if my cash it would be the GT because it looks like a Maserati.

You are just about into petrol Ghibli territory at that pricepoint ... but buying at the bottom will invariably result in issues. Although this looks ok

GT no question. The Ghibli is good objectively but there’s a touch too much Chrysler and mass production feel about it. If you need the 4 doors I’d look for a late model clean QPV.

I think the Ghibli is a lot cheaper to run though, more of them out there and the parts supply is a lot better.

If you don't need 4 doors, GT for sure

The biggest cost is depreciation and at that price point, the GT would have already suffered most of it. The Ghibli still has a way to go

If you are just looking for the badge, I have one here that I could offer for a bit less than £20-21k.

If you are looking for a car, it seems to me that you need to decide first whether you want a low-slung noisy 2-door coupe or a quickish 4-door family saloon. Once you have made that choice, then a wide range of options are available either way.

I don’t need 4 doors. I enjoyed owning the 3200GTA so much and miss the badge.

Welcome back Spike.......If you loved the 3200 lots and miss the badge the there is no question....GT......Without upsetting Ghibli owners it's not as special as it was aimed at the a different market and you will fine the GT is more of the Masersti you will remeber.

Had both in the last couple of years.

Petrol Ghibli is a nice place to be on a daily basis but GT much more special and closer to what it sounds like you are looking for in terms of the Maser feel.
Dicky is right about the Gransport mind you.

Had a look on Autotrader, eBay etc and it seemed to me that Granturismo prices might've bottomed out.
Before I get shot down! This was a snapshot look. With no statistical value whatsoever.
However, if the Granturismo has reached the bottom of its depreciation curve, then this might be an
excellent time to buy a good one.
I've not driven a Ghibli. But I've driven past many. Usually silver. Probably mostly derv. I've never, ever
seen anyone else give them a second look. IMO derv and Maserati ought never to have been put into the same
sentence / postcode / whatever.
A Granturismo approaching is like the second coming of Christ, the Devil making a cameo appearance, a thousand demented Valkyries screaming as if their lives depended on it and a flight of Spitfires shooting overhead at fifty feet.
Or one Brian Blessed.
