Granturismo alarm issues

Hey guys

Second time Granturismo owner here and I have finally decided to join in and post on the forum! I am currently the proud owner of a 2018 Granturismo MC.

However, tonight my car has had it's first 'moment' - I was walking up to the car and after unlocking it the alarm started going off and would not stop. Tried turning the engine on and off, unlocking and locking the car but the alarm just would not go off. Incredibly embarrassing driving home through town with the alarm going off! It gradually went off on it's own after a while and now seems to have stopped. I was wondering if anyone knows what the issue could be or how I can turn the alarm off in the future if this issue arises again? Assuming its a battery issue or an issue with the key fob? Anyone had similar issues?

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

I had exactly the same issue with my car in a Tesco petrol station - as you say, very embarrassing! I tried disconnecting the battery for a few mins and reconnecting, and multiple lock / unlocks after various delays and also starting the engine but the siren kept sounding for 8-10 mins. I also had an Alarm Unavailable warning on the dash.

I ended up disconnecting the siren for a few days as it subsequently went off every time I unlocked the car (it is located in the drivers side wing behind the wheel arch liner) and ordering a replacement siren unit which cured the problem for 12 months. Unfortunately it happened again very recently so I have again disconnected the siren temporarily and have Dale from @PrestigeAutoworks coming next week to have a look.

I did have a new windscreen fitted before this all started happening and was wondering if there are any sensors in the screen that could have been disturbed but hopefully a diagnostic session will reveal all...

So if you do find it goes off again when you next unlock the car, have some ear plugs and a few allen keys / screwdriver bits to hand, whip the wheel arch liner off (should be possible with wheel on full lock) and disconnect the siren (one plug at the back). You can then use the car for the time being while you sort a diagnostic session somewhere.

Are you sure you're not missing the obvious that the door locks and alarms are out of synch
i.e. That as you unlock the doors, the alarm is being armed and then triggered? Easily done, and easily fixed

Good question, not sure... How would that work? The alarm auto arms after unlocking the car but not opening the doors for a few minutes so when you then lock the car it disarms, then rearms the next time you unlock triggering on door opening? If so I would have expected using the key to start the car should silence / disarm the system but it sounds like the systems are not as interconnected as I would expect?

If it's an easy fix I would love to hear it / give it a try.

Central locking, alarm and immobiliser are different systems and not really connected.

Lock the car with the fob. What colour are the LEDs in the door 'shelves'?

Just checked and it's doing the following:

Unlock - solid green for ~3 secs then off.
Lock - solid red for ~3 secs, blinks, then solid red for ~10 secs before flashing red.

That's not your problem then, shame.

Have you done a battery reset? Seems odd for a siren to fail twice, and in that mode.

I suppose it's possible for the alarm to have gone out of sync, I disconnected the siren and then it has since re-sync'd.
Thinking back, the first time it happened was in a petrol station so I didn't necessarily lock the car when paying. On return, I just opened the door and the alarm sounded.
Second time, I was working on the car in my garage so had unlocked it and jacked it up. When I opened the door a while later the alarm went off.

So it's definitely possible it went out of sync due to being unlocked but no doors opened, re-armed and I then opened the door many minutes later triggering the siren. Fingers crossed it's user error!

I will confirm back after Dale's investigation.

It's in synch now, though, is my point.

AFAIK the siren is just that. Siren, backup battery, not much else.

I'm trying to recall if the GT has an auto arm feature as well. Could be just a blind alley here. Dale will (by all accounts) get to the bottom of it.

I had the problem of the alarm going off on its own and the solution was that the terminals needed cleaning (straight from maserati Italy) on the alarm unit. This was after fitting a new alarm sounder. Not ure that this would be a problem on a 208 model but worth a try.

I’m facing the same issue with my 2016 Granturismo Sport.

Get a message saying alarm unavailable and the alarm goes off (as in makes a sound) even when driving.

Tried a battery reset but nothing.

To fix this I usually start the car, get the alarm unavailable message, turn the car off and back on straight away and the message disappears.

Any ideas what this could be?

It sounds like the battery backup (in the siren?) is goosed and it is getting upset when the voltage drops.

It’s a brand new battery so not sure if it is a voltage issue. The alarm still goes off every time I start the car after unlocking. Same process- alarm unavailable and siren goes off and nothing I can do to stop it.

What I’m noticing is that my keys and interior locking are acting a bit dodgy. I don’t hear any beeps when unlocking the car but I do see the green light. Once the siren goes off the car seems to have trouble unlocking / locking with the interior buttons or keys.

Is there anyway for me to try synhcing the remote again?

On the QP it is under the front wing somewhere.
My siren is non-working (probably a good thing). Original diagnosis was dud battery (in the siren) but replacing the whole siren with another one (off another QP) didn't fix it, so probably wiring somewhere. I have just given up on that one.

A long shot but the locks and window detention play up when main battery is low or poor connection.
The negative terminal becomes corroded or loose. Unclip, lightly abrade, spray with switch cleaner or white spirit, smear some vaseline if you have some and reclip the negative terminal. Check that it sufficiently tight to not rotate.
Cured multiple battery issues and quite common.
Easy to do. 10 minutes

Thanks for the advice- I gave it a go but nothing.

What I noticed is that the alarm unavaialble/ siren only goes on if I lock/unlock the car with the remote.

If I leave the car unlocked or lock/unlock the car with the key, I don't get the alarm unavailable/ siren. D

Any ideas?
