Gransport owner with FD mods

Hi everyone,

let me introduce myself - I own an '07 Gransport that I purchased in the USA when I was working in Chicago; the car has now followed me to Europe. It's a very special Gransport - not only because I drove to the back of beyond while in the USA (it's been to all the deserts, high mountains, canyons and National Parks from Colorado to California...) but because it has some pretty good mods. I have installed the Larini de-cats to which Formula Dynamics specifically matched the ECM SW upgrade; I also got the DBW, air filters and racing brake pads. Next step: springs and sway bars.

When I can fill it up with 100 octane fuel, the adjustable FD ECM gives an enormous boost to the power output of the engine. I can easily keep up with a friend's 550 Maranello. I also sometimes drive a Granturismo S which does not belong to me - I am thinking of getting one as my daily driver, but only if I can upgrade the performance to make it quicker than the Gransport!

I have long history with old Maseratis (starting with an '87 Biturbo Si, followed by a '91 2.24V, a '92 Racing, and a '96 Ghibli GT) before I played around with Ferraris (F355, F550) until two children got me back to the Maserati fold (the rear seats have something to do with that...)

Welcome to the best Maserati forum on the planet, Andy. Where are you based? Be great to see and hear your Gransport in the flesh sometime, otherwise photos are always welcome - expected, almost. There will doubtless be a few events coming up through spring and summer, not least of all Bruntingthorpe which will be a great excuse to pit your car against a good assortment of other fast cars.

Welcome Andy, the present motor sounds like a lot of fun with the mods; photos are required naturally... Where abotuts have you based yourself, is this a long term stop?

Hi everyone

I am currently based in Zurich, Switzerland (lots of nice mountain passes in the vicinity :) ). However since part of my family is British I often come to the UK. I do not exclude driving the Maser all the way some time in the future, if there is some major event going that's worth the drive. Otherwise I enjoy the car in the Alps, mostly on the Italian side where you can go a lot quicker without worrying about the police making a fuss about it. Once a year I drive to Tuscany - most beautiful roads and countryside I've ever seen.

Here's a couple of pictures, taken in the Utah Canyonlands and at Grand Canyon respectively.

Beautiful car! Any pics of the air filter - is it a replacement panel filter in the OE airbox, or something attached to the intake in the engine bay?

The air filter is a high-flow BMC item, it fits in the original airbox. Since I was often driving in very dusty environment (as you could tell from my pics :) ), I preferred not risk the engine with an extreme solution. I guess that in Europe I could probably go for something a bit more daring, there's nowhere as much dust as in the Mojave or the Eastern Sierras... :D
