Gransport MPG - Owners experience.

I’m currently considering a Gransport and budgeting on MPG being in the high teens. Am I being optimistic?

I intend to use it daily (20 miles at most) and mainly on dual carriageways and free flowing A roads.

I’d appreciate it if any current or former owners could let me know what sort of MPG they got and in what circumstances.

Many thanks in advance.

18mpg if you drive it like you stole it. 21mpg mixed, 25+ on a run. They’re one of the few cars that do better than expected mpg.

I saw between 14 and 20 mpg, dropping below that when driven with gusto. Best ever was cruising from Naples back to the UK, steady 75-80 was 22 mpg. Worst was around 9 mpg on the charity day at Bruntingthorpe. Expect around 280 - 300 miles per tank.

My average over three coupes and 12 years is c19mpg.

However if you are budgeting MPG on a Maserati you may be for some surprising bills for services and repairs. The difference of between 15 mpg and 25 mpg will not make up for much in comparison.

I have owned mine for 4 years and in that period have covered about 5k miles. It is used on runs averaging about 60 - 80 miles at a time on A and b roads as well as dual carriageways and motorways. Never used in city commuting traffic jams - unless I hit a jam on a motorway section. Driving within speed limits over one round-trip of 200 miles, I got 21 mpg. Rest of the time it is between 14 - 17 mpg

A more useful guide might be range on a full tank. The GS has an 88 litre tank. It gives it a range of 300 miles with reserve warning light coming on at 280 miles or so. The Porsche Turbo also has a 300 - 320 mile range. But it has a 65 litre tank and comfortably does 24-28 mpg and long journey cruising steady on motorways returns 31/33 mpg and it runs 450bhp versus the GS 400 bhp.

Never actually measured mine, but on a 'spirited' drive over Exmoor last sunday, I got about 214 miles from 3/4 tank! One day I will brim the tank and do a measurement, but you don't buy one of these if your worried about economy!

I should add that a GTS is noticeably more economical. Over 18 mpg all the time unless you are really spanking it.

On along run I get about 21 mpg, in south west London I get about 14/16 due to constant start stop and weight of traffic.

I don’t think the cost of driving 20 miles a day in a GS is a big deal. I used to do 300 every week in my old M5.

Just driven Arlon to Rotterdam in the QP5 and so far it's a average of 27mpg over 350 kms or so, E114/A16, mostly 100km/h plus...

Agree with 14/15 mpg when enjoying yourself; 300 per tank but maybe 330 on longer run.

I get 23-25mpg on a run averaging 60-70mph. The sweet spot for economy is below 3000rpm. Over that and the economy drops off.

Urban driving, they are atrocious. If I commute in it, or drive around locally to shops and stuff, not getting over 40mph and stopping at junctions all the time, I get 12-13 mpg. Longer, faster runs, less junctions and getting regularly over 50mph with stretches of 70mph plus, around 15-16 mpg. Motorway runs 20mpg. Really long motorway runs at night, no traffic, the max I’ve done is 22mpg and that’s on a 200 mile journey.
All these are from the computer, I’ve never worked it out manually.
Buy a diesel shed for the urban stuff and it’ll pay for itself very quickly....

Edit- I should clarify these are averages for trips from the computer...

Yours a 4.2 QP isn’t it? This tallies with what zep is saying about QP/GTS being more economical than the 4200/GS. I wonder why that is though? Same engine but heavier car? Don’t get it...

Not quite the same engine for a start. At least not in all of them. 4.2 GTs have a wet sump. 4200 / GS were all dry sump. QPs I think there were all sorts.
