Been a bit busy sorting out a deal I thought might go south at any moment. (Sorry Matt et al will catch up on messages etc.,.. now) Anyway it is done now so here are some pictures for those that are interested.

I was approached about six weeks ago by a French chap who asked if I would be interested in swapping my 65 Elan race car for his Connaught. To be honest I thought there was going to be some kind of catch but it turns out he was serious and I have just returned form France where we made the swap yesterday evening.

So I am now the proud owner of a 1951 Connaught L3, know as The Kenyan Connaught.

Plan now is to check it over fully then start the process to get it FIA papers. Then see if we can get some entries to some interesting events with it!

I will be delighted to show it to you!

I saw Myfanwy at Silverstone on Friday and Sunday but never saw anyone near her so wasn't able to say hello.

History in abundance is what that is, no beauty but will be fun to unravel I'm sure. I particularly like the delicately spoked steering wheel!

Have to agree with Newton, she is no in your face beauty but oh how she pulls you in! Can only imagine the stories behind this old girl and since I count keanyah (correct pronunciation ;)) as my second homeland I can't wait to hear the stories!

I'm sorry. I think it's rather lovely!

Agreed, looks like a good swap
That'd fit in well at The Gold Cup at Oulton Park , they do take their racing seriously as i'm sure you know Robin , a few years ago there was a full field for the e type race, barely a car finished without a bumper hanging off or some dents

As much as I like Elans and an early race car is no doubt sought after, the Connaught is so very very nice and would be my choice too.

Congrats.

Nothing wrong with an Elan but you wont find many Connaughts around I would guess?
Think they only built cars during the 50's?
Love that period of racing car. Looks very basic and raw. Can imagine Moss or Fangio behind the wheel with pudding bowl helmet and oil stained face.
Hope you have great fun with her. You should post up a video of her running as I would think she sounds lovely too?

Lovely I really like this age of race cars and the owners that race them in classic events always the friendliest bunch in the paddock. Oh and add me to the list of one who would like to see it up and running in the flesh.

Quite an interesting one off from Connaught. There is quite a bit on the web about it, spent an hour or so mooching last night. It will be a unique racer and will get invites to all the best classic events around Europe should that take your fancy, looking forward to seeing it in action
