Ghibli Petrol

I’ve driven a few diesels and they are ok but last week we had DaveT’s petrol Ghibli in.

It’s the entry petrol but with the S map applied and both Ashley and I were rather taken with how good it is.

Great power delivery and the auto box with paddles really is excellent.

I suggest any true Maserati fan goes and try one and form your own opinion.

I am now considering one as a daily when my current lease ends next year.

Would be interesting to know what the real world economy figures are between the petrol and diesel as a daily runner.
My M140i has a long term (26k) average of 35 mpg, 40+ easily on a run. My previous 320d wasn't much more at 40, 45+ on a run.
When you compare fuel costs, although the gap has reduced recently, and problems that can occur with diesels, I'm petrol all the way.
Even the Mrs brand new Golf GTD isn't achieving that much more, and it is so complicated you have to fill it up with **** too!!

You know @conaero that I had a petrol Ghibli and really liked it. With an easy centre muffler delete to xpipe and a map (that I didn’t do...) it’s a lot of car for the money. Mine did upper 20s mpg in city driving and mid 30s on a run. You can see by the values that the petrol is about 5k more than a diesel equivalent. I quite liked the diesel too which I had for a week as a loaner but the petrol is much more Maserati for me.

They go through the auctions at 20k which is a lot of car for the money. Make sure you get one with paddles, they are worth it.

Agree on the paddles.

Also, the 21” wheels don’t work without skyhook. The pzeros can’t grip on the standard set up. The light 2017 gives a nicer ice system and is probably worth the slight extra cost for the newer car. The original runs Tom Tom nav and will Bluetooth stream but it’s lifted from a Chrysler and so a bit clunky. Much better than a grantursimo though! There is a pack which gives extended leather, that improves the feel of the dashboard etc which is a wee bit plasticky otherwise.

Yeah they really make it seem like you're changing gear in a proper car (ducks for cover....)

It makes it enjoyable when you find right backroads. It’s capable car for a big heavy saloon and the paddles allow you to have fun from time to time. Yes, it’s still an auto but it can still raise a smile or two.

Been driving around the back lanes in Co Dublin/Co Meath in the QP5 DS, ******* amazing because you can shift properly and that corners so flat and turns in so well. I'm gonna kill myself though, had two near misses so I'm sticking to the M50 and it's not just because I'm averaging 15.5mpg!

I've driven both the diesel and petrol and enjoyed both. Different cars for different markets / needs of course and yes, the petrol is a great drivers car for a saloon and for me they have their place in the model line up (if there was a new coupe available obviously ...)
