Just about to embark on the last major job on the 5k ghibli. Replacement of the Air Con fan. I've been putting it off ever since I read a post from Andrea on Enrico's website saying 14 hours! Anybody here done this already and can let me know the pitfalls?

Not a lot Andy. Bills for over 28k came with the car including all important 48,000 service at Bill Mcgrath. Total parts - New rev counter, new actuators for central locking and boot ,a new heater fan and struts for bonnet and boot lid. I can't get over the cheapness of ghibli spares compared to the QP

She drove pretty well from Wiltshire back to Wetherby via MK. No overheating, good oil pressure. I'm going to sort out this fan, give the grubby interior a good clean and get the bolster wear sorted and that'll do for this year. I'll just enjoy driving it and do the rest of the refurbish over the winter,

Original owner was Roger Epsztjan who does regalia at The Maserati Club. He collected it from the factory and did an article for the Maserati Club magazine. I contacted him and he has sent me all the paperwork for the ordering of the car by Meredian and a copy of the article which was interesting.

It's a fun drive too Andy. No traction control and no ABS. I thought I'd given up smoking.

Ha!

what an adventure! You know that Del Mar might be a good guy to PM about this as he stripped ALOT of interior stuff out for his respray last year...

Which is kind of threequarters of the job I think...

You can't take enough pictures of this job for me!

Decided I didn't have the time or the inclination to do this job in the end so passed it to the experts at Autoshield. Turns out the corners of the windscreen need some repair so it proved to be a good decision. It just goes to show you may think you've bought a rust free car but it can be lurking anywhere! Still she'll be nice and solid when she comes back.

Hahaha. That takes me back to me stupidly agreeing, to repair a Volvo S70 Aircon. Just like the Maser, the whole dash had to come out. But, Volvo decided, to fix the dash with loads, and i mean loads of screws, and bolts. 10 hrs, just to remove the dash! A garage wanted £1000, 10 yrs ago, to do the job! Needless to say, never again!!
Btw, lovely Maser. Still think they are vastly underated.

Andy.

good lord- that's amazing! No going back now, eh?!

How do you mean "a bit of attention"?

you could see once the interior was removed there was a bit of rust? Where about's- internally??

Jim

Photos attached. It's both bottom corners of the windscreen. I don't know enough about Ghiblis to know if this is normal or just particular to mine. There was so much waxoyl in that area on the drivers side that the drain hole was blocked which obviously wouldn't have helped. At least it's been caught before it gets too bad to repair.

Gaffa tape definitely of Italian origin Matt. Optional factory fitment listed as cable tidies!

Arfa - that is a couple of nice holes you have there !!!

Is it possible to see these from inside the engine bay through the little access panel or by the bonnet hinges - clearly seomthing to investigate but dont really want to remove the dash to have a look !!!

I think what happens is that water gest stuck under the "A" pillar/roof cover bit right at the bottom, it is either that or it is somehow getting in around the windscreen. I know when i wash mine water runs down the "a pillar" / roof cover and drips out of the bottom down the front wing. I left a small gap in the rubber seal when fitting the cover so what can drip out when i am drying it not three hours later. Clearly if the area around here has been filled with waxoyl the water has nowhere to drain to.

The part of the car under the front of this cover looks a bit scruffy the plan was always to cover this part so perhaps they didn't spend a great deal of time finishing it.

Thanks

Del

Del- you'd be able to see it from the bulkhead area where the wiper motor is- this is what I was recently painting...

by "part of the car under the front of this cover" do you mean the wiper motor bulkhead area?

reverse of Arfa's hole has to be this area...

Thanks for posting these images Arfa.

P.S. I had some gaffa tape as well on the transmission tunnel wiring going to the rear of the car. There are cable management hoops welded on but they weren't all used...

All metal work repairs are now finished and painted with the dashboard going back in this week. I'm hoping to have it back by before the end of August all sorted.

good Lord- you must know some people!!

I wouldn't have said that was recoverable being where it was- did they have to take the windscreen out? Have you got any shots?

Were the holes through to the wiper-motor bulkhead or the wings, Arfa...??

It's not me that knows them, it's Marios at Autoshield. It's been to their bodyshop contractor and is now back in their workshop being put back together so I don't have any pics other than those that they sent to me. It's had also had a complete mechanical health check with much replacement of drive train bearings and a cambelt service whilse it's been in.

When I saw it for sale on e bay I just felt that a series 1a auto was about as unloved a Ghibli that you could get so decided to save it from being broken for spares. After all between Enrico's numbers and How Many Left it would appear that there are only 5 left in the UK, 3 of which are on SORN. It's had a number of owners who have lavished a fair bit of money on it over the early years with bills for over 28k but had just grown a bit tired. I'm not aiming to have a concours car but one that I can park at a show without being embarrassed.

the bottom bit of the a pillar cover where it meets the windscreen spoiler.

When i took mine off you can see it is not a nice bit of smooth metal, it is poorly finished and would be an easy area for water to gather trapped by the rubber seal and any waxoyl.

I thought i had a picture of this area i will have a look.
