Kent so you are a bit far to come and help........

I have a cup, i took it apart to paint so i have had all the trim bits off - some bits are easy some are hard especially when you know maserati have none left !

The only bit i havent played with is the dash, i will be powder coating the front suspension this winter, so there are always little jobs to do.

I thought my car was rust free when I bought it but found the rot at the base of the windscreen pillars as mentioned by Dicky. This is a screen out/dash out job to repair properly. Autoshield did mine for me but I believe new windscreen rubbers are difficult to get hold of so it will need to be removed carefully if you are doing it yourself. Rumour has it that Marios sourced the last available one in the world for my car from a Maserati dealer in Hong Kong!

Looks like replacement parts are going to be quite a stumbling block on this project then! I am taking much care when removing bits, assuming they will be going back. But it would be nice to fit new shiny bits.
Once the old girl is apart Ill compose a 'wish list' and circulate to the list of contacts I have bedn given by you guys. Also
Spoke to a chap called Richard in the parts department @ Meridian Maserati. he seemed very knowlageable & helpfull, sure most of you guys are familiar with them. Highly recommended if you have a newer model.

Nice motor! A propper one!
I have kind of resigned myself to the fact that once you think your finished something else crops up.
'If you could just open your wallet again sir'!
I did a 2.8 Capri once, I still wasn't happy with it when I sold it.

Update

image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

At last things are progressing, work has stopped all things Maserati & every other social activity recently but managed to have a day on the old Ghibli today.
Apart from the sills (new ones coming next week from Eurospares) all appears to be sound.
Another good day should see it ready for the body shop..... If we can agree on cost, I thought his quote was his phone number at first!!
Given the reported shortage of screen rubbers the experts are booked to remove the glass next week.
Thanks to all for you input thus far.

Many parts are no longer available, front wings bonnets etc also door/ widow trims. It made rebuilding mine post accident a real task even with a very good budget. Andy Haywood had mine to dismantle for parts and it's per accident condition was great. As I said in my last post they or David Askew will be your saving grace, David in particular. Good luck.

Hi Ghibli0014. As promised a few pics of my project after 18 months and still ongoing! A bit grubby as I thought as I'd taken the cover off to take the pics I might as well go for a drive first.

A set of Ghibli Cup springs and some Ghibli GT wheels would transform the look of it, providing a cheeky and more aggressive visual. You've come this far...

Arthur, the car looks great, I think the cars are a bit Marmite, but I love them. I would apologize for forcing you to take the old girl for a spin but I think the public deserve to see it!
Hopefully the paint shop will produce something as good for me. Has the interior ever been sat in? It looks like new.

Hey-

this is a very interesting thread!

I don't think the wheels off anything as late as a GT would fit this car. I think you need revised hubs to take the PCD of the larger wheels...

Correct, PCD on early cars is (I believe) 5 x 106mm and for later cars is 5 x 108mm. No need to make any hub modifications though, it would be possible to fit the later GT type wheels to an early car using wobble bolts which are readily available. It might be nice to keep your car standard, the series 1a has a certain understated charm I think. Having said that, ground clearance can be an issue with the 16" wheels, cats, anti roll bars and the sump can be vulnerable particularly with speed humps.

Good luck with the project, lovely car you have there with lots of potential...

There are 6 speed humps on my drive and I have to be very careful to avoid grounding the cats, to the point that on one of them if I have 4 in the car I have to ask the rear seat passengers to get out so I can get over. No trouble with the sump though as the front end was lifted about half an inch by McGraths early in it's life.

Dicky is right about the wheel pcd. The 125 serie1a cars built used a lot of biturbo bits on the steering, brakes and suspension. I will be keeping my car as standard as possible.

Still headed in the right direction.......slowly.
The poor old bonnet has seen better days, looks like it may have been in to the back of something bigger! Time to dig out the aluminum welder :broke:

W'hoa!

your not 'mucking about' are you??!

Are you saying the bonnet is aluminium? That's news to me- I didn't know that!!

could you do me a favour and get a screen-filling shot of either side of the front while the bumper is off? this is a rarely photographed area and I'd love the detail of the intercooler intake/ headlight recess/ bumper mounting hardware from straight on. It would be very useful to me.

Thanks
