Back on track though - the question is which of the two sounds do people prefer 1 or 2 not which is the Xpipe and which is the original

We've told you which is which mate.

1) X pipe
2) Stock

1 sounds better, louder, higher pitch, free revving and more pops and crackles. 2 still sounds good as do all stock QP's

I would go for 1. But how does it sound inside? Is there more edge to the sound (sporty) or is more soothing to the ear?

I'll do a recording of my QP as standard and then what it sounds like with the X-Pipe when I get it back, hopefully back by mid April.

Yes 1 is the new X pipe and 2 was the original. The new x-pipe is definitely raspier when listened to fom outside, but from inside actually I've not noticed that much difference. Mrs Eb said that the X pipe sounded more tinny than the original. The trouble is both are good, just different The original is more sonorous and mellifluous but the x pipe has more agression and purpose. Pity I can't press a button and switch between the two. (Tempted to try an H pipe as well! and if I wanted valves - where would they go.........?) But I since it's a QP, it should retain a certain air of sophistication. Driving around leaving behind a hole in the fabric of the universe would take some of the refinement away from the car.

H Pipe is the way to go if you want a deeper note. I prefer mine with X pipe and cat delete but each to their own, your setup is different as I think you only have one set of cats.

Ebenezer I've removed the secondary cats and have a Larini H-pipe with stock rears - happy to send you a video clip if you like, PM me if so.

For me, I prefer deeper tones rather than a higher pitched rasp. I don't want to be too loud but more of an understated rumble at idle bit like Adam's.
So what would be best for that? Also would the position of the 'x' or 'h' make a difference to the note? If you think about it, (and if you know something about wave cancellation) I think it would alter the tone and could make it quieter or less powerful.

Martin, Look at the pics I posted which Josh did on the Spyder, it replaces the normal resonator section. It will give you more volume and a bassier note but the biggest gains are when you change the back boxes for aftermarket or gut them like Sparts and Newton.

I think the best bet on a 4200 is H pipe and Larini back boxes.

I think the best bet on a 4200 is H pipe and Larini back boxes.

As Phil says the above makes a massive increase in volume which is what I had - I've recently switched the Larini rears back to OEM and while the 'sound' is great, it has significantly reduced the 'volume'.

So if 'volume' is what you are after, H-pipe and Larini rears is the way to go!
