French Speeding Fine

Just had a speeding fine fall through the letter box from 1st September last year. Says I was doing 138 in a 130 but they take the average and it seems like I will 1 KPH over...£44 fine.

Not seen it yet as Liz was saying over the phone but has anyone had any experience of this...

Is there a time limit for them to send me the fine. Seems a long time ago now
The letter was addressed to Andy Keedwell and my driving license and the car is registered to Andrew Keedwell so seems odd why they would have Andy on the letter as I on onlyAndy to my friends....
All looks official with web site etc how to pay...should I pay ?

Or wait for us to leave on the 29th May ;-)

Chuck it in the bin!

Speak to the DVLA to see if they handed over your details. If not it’s been obtained illegally.

I have had foreign speeding fines but only when I hired a car as the hire companies are on the make too.

Those went in the bin also.

I occasionally get a letter from Pisa about a parking fine from 2010 where I drove right up to the wonky tower and just lent out the window to admire it.

Those all go in the bin too.

I thought that we now share details with our European "friends" and that we have to pay the fines whereas they don't but I might be wrong.

The only time I had a French speeding fine the gendarme took me to the cashpoint to ensure I withdrew the necessary and paid them on the spot.

Thanks both...If we share its just weird the letter has Andy on it and not Andrew. No Government body would have Andy on it

Ah maybe not as just checked my V5 and it does have Andy on it so they probably did get it from DVLA. Ah well have until May 1st. Lots can happen before then.

I've ignored several. Oldest one dating back from 2013, as far as I'm aware you're fine, as long as you haven't been doing F1 speeds!

131 against 130 after nominal adjustments so don't think Interpol will be coming any day soon.

We do share our details
When we want theirs, they say, “Non, Nein......”

Just ask Mrs May

They have updated & now carry credit card machines for the old on the spot ‘Christmas do fund’

But do you want the possibility for a difficult conversation at passport control?

Or to want to hire a car at some point in time and be turned away at the collection desk with family in tow having just landed...

Seems very harsh to fine at 131... but I'm not sure I'd take the do nothing approach... perhaps appeal.

Exactly, the systems may not be talking to each other presently, but might in the future then you might have an unpleasant surprise.
Just not worth it for a fixed penalty fine.
I thought at one stage talk of penalty points could be applied to your UK licence for European driving offences? I assume this has not been implemented?

I'm inclined to agree given that we're only talking about £44. Might argue if it was a more significant sum.

There are no points incurred on a uk licence as things stand at the moment...!

I've just found out that a buddy of mine has received three fines from a trip to France last September. He was travelling in convoy with a friend of mine who was driving my Venturi. So it seems likely that a fine or two might be landing on my doorstep pretty soon!
